Problem with deleting vertices that don't connect anything

I've imported an obj, cleaned up a lot of things I don't need in the mesh, and I happened to notice something when I went to convert it into a usable format for an irrelevant purpose.

There were two vertices in the mesh that didn't connect to anything. I tried to delete them, but Maya for whatever reason said that they contained "complex edge attachment," even though again, they don't connect to anything.

Please note, that these vertices were moved closer to the model I edited to make this more believable (they were originally placed MUCH farther away from the parts of the mesh I meant to keep, but both of them were already placed close to each other).

OK, so is there a solution to this that doesn't involve re-importing the obj and starting the whole process again, nor creating the model from scratch?

Did you try ctrl+delete (which is delete edge/vertex)?

Yes, but nothing changed.

You might want to try a mesh->cleanup with everything under the "Remove Geometry" section checked in the settings.
