Quad Draw Snap/Guides

Quad Draw Snap/Guides

Hello maya team,

it would be nice to have the ability to use a loose, magnetic snap on live objects.

Lets say I retopologize a box with 90 degree angles, then it is currently not possible to place the vertices exactly on the edges of that box.

Analyzing a dense mesh beforehand for "edges" so that you can snap to these while quaddrawing, could be a massive help and open new possibilities and workflows.

This analysis on dense meshes might be computationally expensive, and might result in inaccurate results often.

But I still think it is worth it, especially if you created the high res yourself using creases and or booleans.

Think about creating a high res mesh, possibly using booleans, marking the intersection edges automatically,

then retopologizing using quaddraw to a game or clean mesh by snapping to specific edges or "guides" based on curvature angle, by boolean marking, or via manual component tagging by the user.

I think user assisted, semi-automatic retopology in general is a topic that has vast potential still and I could go on and on about ideas, before I would even consider using something like a fully automatic remesh function as we currently have it.

I really like that you implemented it but I still have to say it fits the fast paced world of zBrush a little better. For Maya, I think we can never have enough control over what we do, even if that means a couple more steps.

Thank you for considering,

Nicolas
