Dear Autodesk Maya Development Team,
I would like to propose an enhancement to Maya's mesh merging feature. While Maya excels in modeling, there is one recurring issue that could be improved to streamline workflow and avoid potential errors.
When merging one entire side of a mesh (vertices or edges), the tool currently requires users to manually delete the face left inside the mesh. Although this is a well-known step in the process, it's easy to forget, which can lead to problematic internal faces within the model, AKA "non-manifold geometry"
These hidden faces can cause issues with rendering, UV mapping, and geometry cleanup later in the workflow.
To address this, I suggest an enhancement where Maya would automatically delete any internal faces generated by a merge operation. By automating this step, it would prevent potential errors, improve user experience, and save time, especially for users working on complex models.
Thank you for considering this feature improvement. Maya is already an excellent tool for modeling, but this small adjustment would greatly enhance the workflow and efficiency for many artists.
Best regards
