Import Inventor files (.ipt, .iam)

Import Inventor files (.ipt, .iam)

Hi,

I searched about this idea on this forum and found some questions. I know that there is a workaround, but Maya needs a native import engine for inventor files. There are many file types to import, even from Dassault, Siemens, PTC, but not the Autodesk Inventor itself. Is that too difficult to implement?

Thank you in advance.

I am sure this previously existed (have been an Inventor & Maya subscriber for a very long time).  Was previously under the ATF importer.  In the ATF importer Inventor no longer shows up (but file types from Autodesk competitors do show up!)  If I don't select the import file type, Maya says it doesn't recognise the file.

When I check in the ATF plugin folder, there are a lot of Inventor and Inventor Server references there (see file system screen shots below), but oddly they don't seem to come up in Maya.  For reference, I'm using Maya 2022 and Inventor 2022.

There is an ugly workaround (that seems to lose some detail).  3DS Max will natively import Inventor files.  From there Max can send to Maya.  The ugly part?  Often Max doesn't import all of an Inventor assembly, and it seems crazy to use Max as an intermediary between Inventor and Maya.

Ugly work around 2 - in Inventor, File/Export/CAD Format then select a CAD format that Maya does recognise. Also prone to losing detail.

Can we have the old functionality back please (or some other modern way of bringing Inventor files natively into Maya!!).
