Problem when I press F key (frame)

When I press the F button on my keyboard to frame on an object the perspective view goes completely blank and doesn't show anything. On other views everything is shown correctly. How can I resolve this problem?

Try adjusting the near and far clipping planes in the perspective view (View > Camera Attribute Editor) since the geometry might just be getting clipped away.

e.g. 0.01...100000

The problem happens even in a newly created scene with just an object. I have the default settings on the camera. Shouldn't be working fine with the default settings?

In your perspective camera window there is 'show' menu. Check what checkboxes are checked. If checking all does not help try turning your grid on (if not turned on). If that is not a solution - double check in outliner by clicking 'F' in it if you are not trying to focus on sth which is not near world center hence you do not even see grid.

I have selected "All" on the show menu and tried the other method. None seems to be working

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

There was an earlier thread with the same issue as you that can be found here!

In this thread I had the user try deleting their settings/preferences and it solved the issue!

When you get a chance can you please try the steps in that link? It will completely reset Maya to default so please be sure to back up your custom scripts/plug-ins before deleting your prefs!

Let me know if this solves your issue or if you need more assistance!

Kudos are greatly appreciated. Everyone likes a thumbs up!

Thank you that worked when I deleted settings folder and created a new scene! However, on the project that I was working, persp is still blank.

Hi @Anonymous

Well I'm glad it works for future project Smiley Tongue

It is strange that it hasn't fixed it for your current project.

When you get a chance, can you please zip the project folder and attach it here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it? That way I can see if the issue occurs on my machine and we can narrow it down to see if it is an issue with your project or something else!

Hi!

Maybe you changed the units for this scene.

Please upload the scene-file.

Hi!

First a side note: your side camera is parented to persp, not sure if you really want this.

Your persp camera is corrupted (Translate NaN). Follow theses steps to reset it:

1. Select camera (in Outliner, or Viewport: View -> Select Camera)
2. Modify -> Reset Transformations (all options enabled "Translate, Rotate, Scale")
3. View -> Default View (In Viewport Menu)

Hi @Anonymous

Have you tried

  1. deleting your settings/preferences
  2. Making a new scene
  3. Going to View->Look at Selection?

Hello Sean, I actually just did that by using the steps provided on the Autodesk and that did correct the issue. Thank you!

Here is a 100% way to fix this in case anybody is having this issue infected to their prefs,
the reason this happens is because fitFactor in your prefs is set to 0,

1- close maya
2- locate your userPrefs.mel
3- open it in notepad and search for fitFactor, you'll notice there is a 0 next to it, change it to 0.8
4- save.

you can also change this value in the maya preferences, this explains it further
