Maya scene empty

Anonymous

Hey so i had some weird issues with cameras not focusing on objects so I restarted the scene in hopes that it would fix itself but instead the scene opens up empty and with nothing in the outliner, but the scene still has the same file size? I had not saved any backup and i fear that a lot of time animating has just been for nothing... I used a couple of references if that could have anything to do with it?

I'm using maya 2018.

What should I try? I already tried two different computers and they both had the issue.

You still have an opened post here from 2 weeks ago, please address these first.

Hi!

@Anonymous

I am sorry, your scene does not contain any connections or geometry data.

I guess you never deleted history and lost all connections for some reason, I also did not found any primitive creation or edit history.

In this case I would consider your data as lost.

Rebuilding everything from scratch will be faster than reconnecting thousands of nodes without knowing what attributes need to be connected.

I attached something that I recovered, but I can't say if this is helpful, it doesn't look so.

(You can use the "polyCube1" node to resize the input cube in case the scene is helpful)

To prevent data loss like this:
1. Do incremental saves (as often as suitable) and from time to time save or export in an additional format (like FBX or OBJ).
2. Delete history if not needed anymore (on individual or all objects).
3. Create backups.

Also please use proper names and don't use Copy/Paste, use Duplicate instead.

Names like these are really bad.

pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pasted__pCubeShape6

You also have many duplicate names in your scene and some hierarchies have a character count of more than 4000 characters.

If there would be something that could be only manually recovered, than these names would make this really hard or even impossible.

Hi!

This looks like a binary Maya file (.mb). You can't edit binary files with a Text Editor.

Today when I went to open my file all my geometry was gone, editing the text file fixed it and I did not lose any work. Thank you! For clarity search for nan(ind) and replace with 0

Hello @mspeer Thank you for all the support that you share here. I follow the steps in your solution but I cant found any  text "nan" or "nan(ind)" in my file. It is a big file so I download UltraEdit to edit the file. Please I really need help with this. Thank you in advance!

@Mariocotorra  Mariocotorra  I opened your file in ultraEdit and it's filled with nan(ings), I replaced them with 0 and then the file opened. Your file was filled with hundreds of duplicates of your model which was causing the file size to pretty large so I deleted all hidden duplicates and uploaded the file here https://drive.google.com/file/d/19RGCaOFrA-oDNFco4XjLYT0U5oGtEIN5/view?usp=sharing

@malcolm_341  you are my hero! Thank you very much. The file works!  Sorry if it's too much to ask. But you can upload the Fixed file without having imported it into your Maya. It is that it says that it can give me License problems because it was edited in student software. I really appreciate that you have helped me!

Hi!

Here the recovered scene attached.

I also removed the "extra" Blend Shape meshes , otherwise the file would have been too large for upload here.

@Mariocotorrasure I updated the file without the student stuff, or you can just download the file from mspeer, either one should work.
