didn´t look in your file but based on the video i would try to quad- or even triangulate the mesh before doing the bend. that way your normals should stay constant.

this BUG have a strange behavour in different versions Maya. 2018 have a BUG. 

I find a solution for a time.  Turn on vertex normal and BUG is gone.  I can record a video with this situation. no need triangulation becourse I use a wire shader and need a quads polygons. 
and please fix the Texture deformer.

Hi!

 

I was not able to reproduce this behavior with your scene on a, so this problem seems to be related to your graphic card (/driver).

 

What happens if you render this scene in Maya Render View with Maya Hardware 2.0 and Maya Software?
