Maya Interface Scalling issue. 4k display

Hi there,

I have 2 monitors and just upgraded one of them to 4k. So now one is normal 1080 the other one is 4k.

So of course on the 4k monitor ui scaling on 100% everything was really tiny and hard to see. Then i changed the scaling option to 150% and on the 4k monitor everything is fine looks nice, but when i dock some of the tabs to the 1080 monitor, everything is scaled up to 150% looks gigantic.

so im wondering is there a way set the scaling option separately or just adopt the windows scaling settings?

Cos windows 10 does has its own scaling settings too, every other program that i use follows the windows scaling settings and show me the stuffs 150% larger on the 4k, 100% on the 1080. No issues. But maya seems to ignore the windows settings and screw everything up.

Please help, i attached pics to

Hi @Anonymous

The issue in that video looks different from the one in your original post.

What GPU are you using and is the driver version the same as our certified hardware list?

You can find our certified hardware list here!

Also, is that happening on your 4k monitor or on your non 4k monitors?

Hi Sean,

thanks for your reply. Yes it happens on my 4k monitor.

I put together comparison very roughly please have a look.

The video i uploaded happens when i set my settings on picture v02.

hope this pics make sense.

I have two gtx 1080ti. Wierdly 1080ti is not on the list but 1080 is. Not sure if thats causing the problem 😞

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting those screenshots!

I finally get what's happening but sadly there is no simple fix at the moment. My set up is the same as yours and I do have the same scaling happen on my 1080 monitors where everything is blown up but I have been just dealing with it and resizing the windows or zooming in/out to get the space I need.

That said, this scaling issue is on the developers radar and they're working on improving how Maya handles multiple monitors at different resolutions but I can't say when it will be implemented.

Thanks for reply mate!

Good to know that im not alone.  🙂

i saw somewhere that somebody said, there was no issue at all with similar setup. So i thought i might be missing something.

Lets just hope and wait the guys to come up with cool solution.

Cheers!

Hello!

I have a similar issue, I too thought I was missing something since I seen other set-ups work just fine.

For me I wish there was a scaling lower than 100% because for my set-up I want to use my 1920 x1080 monitor because is actually a bigger screen than my laptop. But everything in maya looks gigantic and I'm not really saving screen space as I thought I would be. I go back to my tiny, higher resolution laptop screen and everything is fine, except that I don't want to work in that tiny screen anymore.

Looking forward for a solution on this

Ale

Have the same Problem, there is no way to get Maya working on different resolution displays.
Its a shame that Autodesk, can not make Software that works correctly even Blender 2.8 has no Problem with 2 Displays with different resolution 🙂 this is a joke

Actually, I just tested - if you change the settings as described above within the properties of Autodesk Maya .exe file, and click compatibility and then Change High Dpi Settings, then in the bottom choose Override Dpi scaling behavior BUT choose the option System instead of Application, the software will run as it should.

I've been trying to figure this multi-resolution problem for a long time, thanks to everyone in this thread trying to solve it.

@Anonymous I tried doing as you described, but I am still getting messed up, mixed visuals.  Here are the settings for the maya.exe properties, as well as my Maya 2018 preferences.

Here is how things look on my 4K (main) monitor.

Is this 4K monitor I purchased just a waste of money, if I have to down-res it to work with my other 1080p monitors?
The screenshot above is of my 4K monitor, but my 1080p monitors display drop-down menu items just fine.  Also, the cursor is so tiny on the 4K monitor, even though the text looks scaled-up to appear 1080p.

How is your setup?  Can you share some screenshots of your settings, as well as how your Maya looks?

I am also in the same predicament.  I had once thought that this multi-resolution incompatibility is a deeper Windows problem (I believe Mac handles multi-resolution very elegantly), but Blender handles multi-resolution just fine on Windows.  I have Blender running on my 4K monitor right now (it looks great!), and when I create a new Blender window, I drag it to the lower-resolution 1080p monitor and all of the text scales to a correct proportion there.  The only issue is that the title bar for the window remains hugely scaled-up, but at least the contents are correctly scaled.

I don't mean to be "that guy", but Blender has solved this without issue.  Autodesk, step it up, please.  Straight 1080p monitors are no longer the norm, as VFX studios are ramping up our display hardware to higher and higher resolutions.

Maya 2020, multi-resolution monitor setup problem still persists.

Are the Autodesk devs actually doing testing for this?  How is this continuing to be an issue?
