Maya crashes when attempting to edit Hotkeys

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've recently jumped back into Maya, but after using 3DS Max for so long, I wanted to change up some of the hotkeys to match what I know and love.

Well, I'm able to change most of the ones I wanted to. And when I attempt to remove 'Z' from Undo, it crashes. Almost instantly.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Windows > Settings/Preferences > Hotkey Editor

2) Select Search By: Hotkey

3) Search 'Z'

4) Select the Undo command with 'Z' assigned to it.

5) Delete the hotkey.

6) Boom. Crash.

If you remind me how to check the error logs I can post them.

Hi @Anonymous

I just tried this and had no issue.

A quick test you could try is deleting your settings/preferences and then try removing the hotkey again.

Also, what version of Maya are you using and is it up to date?

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting 🙂 I would recommend verifying that your GPU (graphics card) drivers are up to date. You can do this by creating a DxDiag Report - the display tab, and on the right side it will have a Driver section. If the date is more than 2 months old it needs to be updated.

Use the card name to search online for the manufacturer website and latest driver download.

Make sure that Maya is shut down before installing the latest driver, and reboot the computer after installing 🙂

The same issue here.

Maya crashes and keep crashing usually when attempting to delete an assigned shortcut.

Workaround is to assign the faulty shortcut to another command instead deleting it.

Other problems with hotkey editors are;

When typing application Command in search box, it focus jumps to the hotkey and causing user to accidentally change already assigned hotkeys, while one just wants to search for a command.

Not displaying (purely visual) already assigned hotkey.

Not being able to assign certain shortcut combinations, which can be assigned on different occasion.

It affects random to me keys. W, Alt + numerical, many more.

Same here

Not sure if I should be glad or concerned that I found someone else who had this problem recently...

Last night, I fixed freezing from a different issue by doing Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences > Animation > change the option towards the top from "Parallel" to "DG", thanks to a classmate for helping me with that, but I guess that didn't preemptively fix the hotkey-editing crashes...
