Maya 2018, Problem with the transform Manipulator (Gizmo)

Hello ,

I seem to have a weird problem - the Gizmo (Transform Manipulator) doesn't seem to be working . I m trying to left click any of the individual red, blue or green axis to perform a move, scale or rotate but it doesn't select them , rather it just drags a square marquee on it. Its really frustrating . I didnt have this problem with Maya 2017 . Please any help would be greatly appreciable .

Hello.

Can you invite me to Maya 2018 beta too?

I feel no gratification having pirate Maya 2018 on my PC. It make me feel dirty.

Wtf? 2018 has not been released yet - I assume since this is your first post you're using a pirated version?

Hi Sean - thanks for confirming that 2018 is in Beta, hope its going well.

I heard a disturbing rumor that Legacy Viewport is being removed in 2018. I would be fine with this except that VP2.0 has major issues in 2017, as outlined in these threads:

Selection glitches:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/extension-2-selection-glitches-in-viewport-2-0/m-p/6973489#M40909

DG evaluation mode broken:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/dg-mode-animation-broken-in-update-3/m-p/6925236#M40358

The workaround for both of these issues was using Legacy Viewport. (Using parallel evaluation mode was an option for the second issue, but it doesn't work with animation methods such as mash, so pointless).

I know you are probably not able to comment on Beta issues, but if there is truth to the rumor I'm hoping the development team has corrected those problems... they are quite fundamental elements of a 3D program to have working properly.

Hi all!

Sadly I can not comment on any features that are being added/removed etc from Maya 2018.

However I can say our dev team is working hard on it and look forward to getting it to you all as soon as possible :).

(Also don't torrent, this applies to games/movies anything. Supporting the devs is way cooler Smiley Wink)

If it were only as easy as waiting for some specific future Maya version where most of the basic bugs are magically fixed. Unfortunately that is utopia with Maya. If one thing gets finally fixed, 100 things that always worked up to that point HAVE to suddenly break. Zero sum game.

Hi all ,

sorry if this post made a lot of people feel uncomfortable .. Trust me I m a guy living in a third world military country who works in a job that only makes around 100 dollars a month. Doing 3D animations was a way of surviving financially , yet I feel so bad about not being able to pay for it and supporting the developers . If only Maya would be like unreal engine where it's free but pay a percentage with every project you publish that would help a lot of people like me . Anyway , even though I grew comfortable working with Maya , I ll switch to blender since it's free until I can afford Maya again .

Found the solution:  So I had the exact problem, the only clue I had was that I was on an oldish machine. So if you're having this problem it might be the same with you.

So what I ended up doing was going into Preferences>Display and changing > And changing the Viewport 2.0 rendering engine to DirectX.

This seemed to fix it. Now I'm sure this will eventually bring up some annoying side-effects but beats buying a new machine for now. Hope that helps someone!

After changing the viewport 2.0 rendering engine to directx 11 , the manipulator started working again correctly , but i came up with another problem ; color management is not working now, neither in the viewport or the arnold renderer . I'm pretty sure its because i have an old graphics card(Nvidia quadro FX 3800)  .

What i did to fix the problem is instead of switching it to directx11,  I switched it to OpenGL legacy and that seemed to have fixed the problem of both color management and the manipulator working .

Had the same bug with the 2018 Trial version I just installed.  On my 3-4 year old Lenovo Y500 with SLI dual graphics cards.
