Maya 2017 Update 4 constant crashes

After the 15th crash today with update 4...what am i meant to think? How is it i can find things instantly that have been reported ages ago and you haven't fixed...simple things...basic things? Why is it crashing more often?

Sorry for the rant just tired of poor testing and blatantly bad coding...I love maya, stop breaking it.

Hi @adenne

If you can give some more information as to what happens when Maya crashes we can disect the issue and look for a resolution 🙂

Hi thanks for the reply, but these crashes aren't as simple or reproducible to be able to explain in the correct detail. If i tried I wouldn't have time to do anything else. My post, albeit rant 😉  was just venting at how bad maya 2017 is and how little testing seems to go on.

For example, my first crash of day...all i did was add a blendcolor node in the hypershade...that's all.  Now i reopen the scene and add a blend node and its fine. How is this going to help you?

Crashes aren't always just 1 thing obviously.  Its usually a combination of things that build up, giving me the reason to think there are a lot of errors going on in the background and eventually maya just gives up.

Lets face it, maya 2017 is a really buggy release (never had so many crashes with 2016) and I cant imagine that you yourselves aren't having a lot of crashes. I mean how many issues are caused by the new UI code?

I now have a shortcut to my temp folder because I'm having to access it a lot. 🙂

Well from my personal experience, I haven't had a single crash with Maya 2017 so far. Of course it depends on what you're doing, your hardware specs and a wide variety of other factors but some people can be luckier than others :P.

But every issue has a cause wherever or whatever it might be and like I said in my earlier post, if you have any other ongoing issues I'd be happy to share a screencast with you or chat on the phone. Just message me whenever, it's my job to help after all ^_^

This is very unfortunate to hear...I tried update 3 and after 1 crash per hour of using the new graph editor, we promptly went back to Maya 2016 where not one crash has happened in the last month. Doing simple things like grabbing a bunch of keyframes and shifting them has at least a 15% chance of hard crashing Maya 2017 with no temp save file.

I was hoping that Autodesk had heard all the complaints from the many experienced devs (some with decades of experience), but somehow they have chosen to shrug it off as random chance and keep adding new features instead. In any case, I don't envy the job of Autodesk moderators as the state of Maya 2017 is not serviceable for most users at the moment. Please someone at Autodesk just try to animate with the graph editor for a few days and tell me your results here. I'm not quite sure it is the graph editor, but it sure does feel like it.

For Autodesk's info, this is a link to my laptop specs:

ASUS ROG GTX 1070

I look forward to update 5 in hopes that our woes will finally be answered.

Hi,

I downloaded trial version of Maya 2017. I have a fairly grunty dell precision workstation computer with a Quadro graphics card but this version of Maya crashes constantly on a variety of operations.  During my trial period it would crash on average 4-5 times daily.  It also has problems with refreshing and I would find that my transform tools, attribute editor and outliner would stay on the previous selection making things very confusing and difficult.

My colleague who is now subscribed and who also has a high specs dell precision workstation was hoping that the subscription would give him the upgrades to fix all the issues is deeply disappointed as he experiences constant crashing also.  We are both users of Maya for many years as designers and concept artists in the film industry. My licensed version is 2014 and it was great but this new version is pretty close unworkable.

I really hope these issues will be ironed out in the future. It's back to Maya 2014 for me. As with Adenne I just can't cope with the constant crashes.
