Importing dwg and dxf in 2018

Hi,

I've reviewed all the posts I could find on this topic and still have not seen anything that resolves my issue. I think, I hope, I'm missing something simple. I've tried to import dwg and dxf files into Maya 2018 by using import and also open scene. I am getting the unrecognized file type response. I checked and ATF plugin is loaded. I'm not sure if there is a way to export to an ATF compatible file from Autocad. I've attempted to find a command for this but did not find a solution. I'm using Autocad 17 for Mac. Please let me know what things I can check or if I'm missing something about how to use ATF.

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

When you get a chance, can you please check to see if you have the DirectConnect.mll plugin loaded?

If you do have it loaded and that doesn't solve the issue, can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it?

Let me know if anything changes!

Hi Sean,

Thank you for the reply. I don't see DirectConnect.mll in the plugin manager at all. My understanding was that ATF replaces that plugin?

Thanks again

Hi @Anonymous

Right my mistake the ATF plugin should work.

When you get a chance, can you please zip and attach the dwg files here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it?

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for sending me the file!

I did some testing and it looks like importing DWG files works fine on Windows but there's a bug where it isn't working on Mac at the moment.

This has been logged with our dev team and they are working on a fix.

Please let me know if you need any more assistance!

Maybe you can help me by converting the file for me?

I think the problem is Mac-specific. I apologize this is still not fixed. In the meantime, here's a workaround: convert your file to SVG - I used this free online utility: http://www.dxfconverter.org/ - and then import it. I've converted your file here.

What exactly are the unit troubles? If it is just the wrong size, apply a uniform scaling factor to it and then freeze the transforms.

Hi,

In Mac the way i found to do this was, Import dwg into illustrator and then save as Illustrator file.

Then in Maya go to create -> Adobe Illustrator Object , choose the .ai file and select Import as Curves ( Bevel Fails).

NOTE: Maya just accept Illustrator 8 so, save the file in that version.

Hope this helps someone,

Pedro

Hello

I'm having the same inconvenient trying to export from AutoCAD 2013 to MAYA 2018 on a Mac. I already tried converting both .dwg and .dxf to .svg but MAYA reads ‘unrecognized file‘

Is there, by any chance, any update to fix the bug already or another solution to import CAD files?

Thank You!

Hi,

I also have same problem. I checked the plugins and they are all intact. The import is always successful, only that the drawing use to be very small and the scale tool does not work on it. sometime I will see the imported file in the outliner only and not in the view ports. Attached is the error message that always comes in before the file appears on the outliner
