Imported an Image but can't move it

I'm using maya 2012 and I'm following a tutorial trying to learn maya. I have imported an image but in the tutorial the guy is able to move that image around, I for some reason can't. Every time I select it, (which it only sometimes lets me do) and try to move it, it will not move, but instead just moves another frame that seems to be joined to it somehow. Its not on template mode, and I've tried right-click on the channels section to unlock, didn't do anything. Can anyone suggest anything? I used a png and a jpg same issue.

When you imported the image, did you import it as an image plane or attach it to a camera?

If its attached to the camera you can not move it.

Thanks for your response, I don't think I attached it to a camera, I clicked (in front view) View, image plane, import image.

Hmm ok.

Try going to Windows-> Outliner and then selecting 'Image Plane'

Then you should see your gizmo and be able to move the image.

If not feel free to post a screenshot/video of your issue and I'll see what I can do :).

An easier way is to just make a plane and make a new material on it, name it "Reference" and put the picture in the plane, scale it. Put it in the back and go into the attributes to do some mumbo jumbo to make it unselectable.

In attributes, find pPlaneShape1 tab.

Object Display>Drawing Overrides. Enable it.

Display Type: Reference. 

Selecting Reference will make the plane unselectable, so make sure its in position. If you want to select the plane again you'll need to open the outliner and select it there.

Thank you Sean, I am able to move it now in perspective view, I did it by tracking down the image plane in attributes and clicking the image plane tab then changing from fixed to attached to camera. I tried looking for image plane in outline but it wasn't there, instead it just said Front, so I looked for it in attributes instead. Strange. It still wont let me select in front view. This is what my screen looks like, as you can see when I select the image it has a green frame and line that appears that it lets me move, not sure why! Anyway thanks for your help!
