How to Get Custom Plug-in working?

sweetpea09234

So I found this plug-in that would allow me to import PMX files and Followed its instructions, to what I thought was correct, since I've done this before.

This is the Github link:

Could it be these Files are more strictly meant for older versions of Maya or are I doing something incorrectly?

The last one is from maya 2017

If I go to like 2016 could that help?

Hi @sweetpea09234

There wasn't a github link in your original post, can you post it again?

Usually with custom scripts there's a line of Mel that needs to be run to activate the plugin, have you tried this?

Hi @sweetpea09234

Thanks for posting the link!

I had no trouble with it with 2016 so you may indeed want to rollback to and older version of Maya in order to use this plugin.

Ok so there is the new problem, I need this plug in to work for 2017 or newer.

I cant download 2016 because Im on the educational version since it only rolls back 3 years (2019,2018,2017)

Hi,

It seems there is a second branch of the code that is for maya 2017:

https://github.com/gameboy12615/MMD4Maya/tree/maya2017

Have you tried that?

From the README.md file:

master branch: maya2015~maya2016
maya2017 branch: maya2017

Hi @sweetpea09234

I just did it the exact way the steps are laid out in the screenshot on the github link.

Hey @sean.heasley

Ok ok, I got a video of me to try to import it. I do not a "terms of use" pop up. So I think I'm obviously doing something wrong. I've never used plugins like this so I think my stupidity is getting the best of me.

This image I'm trying to follow but it doesn't even pop up.

Also, I'm not importing a VMD file, I  just want the model :_:

Thank you for trying to help me with this tedious task.

Also this is one of the PMX files im trying

Hi @sweetpea09234

Hmm that's odd.

When you get a chance, can you please zip and attach the pmx file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it? If the file is confidential or under NDA please send it to me in a private message instead of posting it here.

Ok, so I'm basically trying to do the exact same thing...

Ive watched y'alls videos but they don't show how you download the plugin in the first place. obviously I don't see any neon green download button on the GitHub page so I assume I'm supposed to copy and paste lines of code?? or is there a folder somewhere?? lol its kind of ironic I'm working with a sour Luka too. So, um if you could help me figure out what to download/copy/paste that would be great

Really sorry for bothering you I'm a bit of a newb with Maya
Thx!

I haven't downloaded or tried it, but from what I'm reading from the past posts, make sure you're on the "maya2017" branch, then click the green "Code" button, and choose "Download ZIP". The contents of the zip file should match the files in the repository. From there, you should be able to follow the instructions on the github page to install the script.
