I just downloaded my second copy of Maya onto my second device, as allowed by my student license, and whenever I try starting it up, it gives me a fatal error before it even draws the interface or displays the scene. I don't know what's wrong considering it still works on my laptop, which has lower specs, so any help would be helpful.

I'm having the same problem and I'm trying to fix it the way you suggested. However, I'm having trouble opening the Maya.env file because I don't have any text editors that support that file extension. Do you know any text editor that support this file?
Maya.env is an ordinary text file, so you can open it with Windows (any version) Notepad or any other text editor you prefer.
Thank you so much I had the same problem and this helps me a lot

@sean.heasley
I am having the same issue on my 2020 version however different in some regards to the drivers.
Hey black.abbath I have the same problem!!
My PC has an intel CPU with an integrated Intel GPU. No other graphic card.
I used Maya and everything was beautiful. But then I had an idea : let's install Vray. And since then, all hell broke loose.
What was happening exactly : when I loaded Maya it crashed as soon as the viewport appeared. But then, this problem went away, I don't know why... ??
After that, Maya kept crashing but not on all scenes. Simple, light scenes, did not crash. But scenes with more advanced rigs and heavy scenes were crashing. This happened EVEN IF VRAY WAS DISABLED IN THE PLUGIN MANAGER!!
So I decided to uninstall Vray and now all is nice again. I can load any scene without any crash!
So what's the deal here???
Thanks
DS
