Disabling default light in Maya 2018?

Hi there,

Very simple question here. Using Maya 2018 and I can´t find the old option in the Render Settings to disable default lighting. I am rendering in Arnold, IPR, and when I render with no lights I see lighting in my assets, I create some lights, it won´t go away. Seems like there´s a default light but I can´t find the option to deactivate it.

Thanks

Hi @antokoman and welcome to the community!

In the Light attribute, Uncheck Illuminates by Default.

If that doesn't work you could also try hiding the lights by selecting them and pressing CTRL+H.

Please let me know if this helps or if you need any more assistance!

There's no default light.

Check the Arnold log for a list of lights and objects:

00:00:00 1153MB | there are 1 light and 3 objects:
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 persp_camera
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 skydome_light
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 utility
00:00:00 1153MB | 2 standard_surface
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 driver_exr
00:00:00 1153MB | 2 gaussian_filter
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 closest_filter
00:00:00 1153MB | 2 polymesh
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 list_aggregate
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 MayaFile
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 color_manager_syncolor
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 renderview_display
00:00:00 1153MB | 1 driver_arv
00:00:00 1153MB |
00:00:00 1154MB | rendering image at 960 x 540, -3 AA samples

Note that for the Arnold Render View, you would need to set the Log to Full, because the list of lights and objects is printed only for the first progressive pass (aka AA = -3)

Thanks for the reply. I was going crazy but I think it´s a surface shader that was emitting some light.

Cheers
