**bug** Duplicate special not working properly

Hey everyone,

Having some real issues duplicating type objects and it appears to be a bug (this issue does not arise in Maya 2017)

I have a Text object with extrusion turned off.

I need to duplicate this object but retain the ability to edit the text, so not an instance but a copy with all the input fields still available.

I go to Edit | Duplicate special (with options) See image for settings.

Screen Shot 2018-11-02 at 2.38.16 pm.png

When i apply / Duplicate special it does a few strange things. First, it actually creates two copies, one with the object history deleted and one as a new object.

The new object (typeMesh2) has its own type input field as i need, but the extrusion has been re applied.

We are publish a ton of content so we need the ability to make copies of text objects and edit these independently.

As i mentioned this issue did not happen in 2017. Has this featured been updated and theres a new way to achieve this now, or is this a bug with no current fix.

Really struggling with this one and would love some help.

Thanks

Nick.

I'm using Maya. NOT LT, Maya.

About that update.

If I downloaded the latest trial, 3 days ago... does it include the latest update?

If not, where do I get it?

I've tried to update Maya. It says there are no updates pending.

Hi @Anonymous

Sorry for the confusion but you've been stating LT and Maya in one of your posts so it was hard to tell what you are working with.

The link is where you need to log in with your Autodesk account and then navigate to Updates and Addons to download the update.

The update will be available if you have a valid license for Maya, if you are using a trial of Maya then you will not be able to update until you own a license.

Hi @Anonymous

You are on a trial version of Maya so you can not update to Update 5 which includes the fix for this issue.

I've gone to my account, the products page, the updates section:

this is what I get.... "There are no updates for your software..."

You are kidding me.

You wasted my time in this way?

You keep asking me which version I'm using...

and then this?

What is wrong with you? How do you have this job?

Hi @Anonymous

Again I'm sorry for the confusion here. Early on it wasn't clear you were on a trial account and my only goal was to figure out if you were indeed on Update 5 of 2018.

Once we figured out you weren't on Update 5(only a few posts ago) I knew you had to update but then realized you were on a trial account which is why I shared this information.

We're now updating this information about trial accounts on our article for how to update as it wasn't there originally.

Give my email address to your boss.  Please.

This lack of an updated trial for new potential users is the most wrong headed thing I've seen in a long time.

THANK YOU!!!

Turns out the trial version is an early 2018 version, before any updates, and riddled with bugs. And there's no way to update the trial version.

Must buy, commit to a contract, and then the updates are available.

So those trialling the software... those considering spending the time and money to become a Maya user, those people get the worst possible experience.

I'll take a wild guess. Maya sales and subscriptions from trial users have dropped off since this became the way things are done.

Some geniuses in muddle management, I presume.

Just incredible. Unbelievable.
