Vault Project.ipj how to check version you have

Hello,

Trying to figure out what happened for my team here. I have a project .ipj file that I pulled and used on one PC. I have a new user that I pulled the .ipj for just recently and found that I had to modify some settings on his PC to make it work. Then I realized one of my other PC's for another staff member had the same issues as my new employee. So I'm thinking my version of the .ipj file is different than their .ipj and I want to check that revision number/letter to compare. But as far as I can see, there's no way to check this. Aside from the vault saying the revision number/letter. But I need to see the local revision letter/number.

Anyone know how?

(PS: normally I would just pull a new version and alter it. But the department manager is sitting on it. Plus I'm guessing my revision is D. My 1 team mate is C and my new employee is E. And I don't want to pull something that is in a worse state than what I have now.)

Hi,

Sure you can.

Make a check out in vault to for version X to "User defined path/Folder001"

Make a check out in vault to for version Y to "User defined path/Folder002"

Start inventor twice:

open the first app with vault to for version X

open the second app with vault to for version Y

Now you can compare them.

So there's no way to just look at a revision field anywhere?

For instance, if I just get a idw or  ipt, the revision field has a revision letter or number to tell you which revision level it is.... Where as the project file doesn't seem to have a revision field. Am I correct in this assumption?

So I spoke with a certified Autodesk consultant who said there isn't a way to do this other than to get each project and rename them and then comparing them individually.

I'm going to put in a idea for Project Editor to add a feature to compare project files more easily.

Sure you can, by checking them out to a different location. Now you can open them with two inventor sessions and compare them easily.

Hope this will help your

Hi,

As a quick workaround you can also use any text comparison tool since ipj files are just .xml files. If you get the 2 ipj files to disk & then change the .ipj extension to .xml you can do a quick check based on the text content.

Hope this helps,
Chris

That is a good one.

Did not think about xml files.

My complements.

By the way.

You can show the version number after the ipj file as a suffix in the inventor vault browser. Also you will see a red circle icon if the user has not the latest version downloaded.

Do you mean to rename the files with the version number? Or is this a setting somewhere?

Also the .xml idea is a great one. I tried and it my excel went nuts converting it and the table look disorganized... Newest version of Excel seems to translate it a bit weird. (I don't know if excel changed the way it read things over the years or if this is intentional.)
