Exclude Feature from analysis

Is it possible to exclude a feature (hole or extrusion) from the analysis just for simplification?  We had the ability in the Inventor FEA to do that.

Hi @karthur1,

You are correct. In Inventor FEA you are able to exclude features from the study.

In Nastran you are not exposed to the features, so no way of excluding them.

Cheers

Hello @karthur1 ,

if you are working with assemblies, the other option is to try "shrinkwrap substitute" representation. Please note that this workflow needs to be applied to the top assembly.

There is a known issue where existence of "shrinkwrap substitute" representation in the sub-assemblies causes AIN (Autodesk Inventor Nastran) to crash.

Not really what I wanted to hear, but it is what it is. Would be a good feature to have (future plans maybe). On some parts, this reduces the time it takes to run the analysis.

Thanks

Hello @karthur1 ,

could you submit that idea to Autodesk Inventor Nastran IdeaStation here?

Instead of excluding the features from the study, simply suppress them in the model. Nastran boasts about the ability to make changes directly to the model without leaving the analysis environment. With inventor stress analysis, anytime I wanted to make a change other than "exclude from study", I would have to exit out of the study, make the change, and then open the study back up, which took extra time.
