This would definitely be a good addition to Inventor. It would save time if anyone wants a separate view of a part and an identifying BOM balloon with it by incorporating it in the BOM table.
And if the thumbnails are included in a parts list, they could use the same thumbnail as in the BOM. If this is possible, then the thumbnails should have a transparent background. Maybe have an option to be transparent or a user selectable raster image or color # etc. for both the BOM and Parts List.
Great. This is exactly what I'm wanting and need. It would make parts selection so much more easier especially using the drawing directly without having to export to Word or Excel.
This would be a great asset for large assembly drawings. Especially ones that go to nations that do not speak the same language in which the drawing was produced. (A picture is worth a thousand words.)
This is Standard Practice in Structural Steel documentation. Same with tank fab drawings. The thing that's so good about doing it this way is, you also get a Pic of the End Treatments on the steel members in the Parts List, so the prep guys can see the cut angle, copes, blocking or whatever. Saves a lot of detailing time, b/c in the Parts list you have the member length + end treatments, which is all you need to prep the part for fab, instead of detailing every single part! The only reason you would otherwise need to detail any of the members separately is if you had pockets, holes or other features btw the ends of the part. This is good for showing the basic shape of the Flat Patterns in sheetmetal and platework. So you get the OAL dims, thickness, material and shape as a pic. It's a great way to identify parts in a model that has 100's of parts. This is a 'no-brainer' for people who work in the real world.
