Show edges on transparent parts

Show edges on transparent parts

Transparent Display Edges.png

For some reason, making a part Transparent turns off its edges, even if the "Shaded with Edges" visual style is active. This should not be. Not only does this contradict the visual style, but it also makes Transparent and Disabled parts look identical. Please make transparent parts obey the visual style setting for edge visibility.

It's been pointed out to me that the setting for the display of edges for transparent and disabled parts has been lumped into one under Application Options --> Display tab --> Inactive Component Appearance area --> Display edges checkbox.

There are two problems with this:

  1. Transparent parts are not "inactive", so they shouldn't be affected by these settings.
  2. The display settings for transparent parts and disabled parts (i.e. opacity, edge display) should be controlled separately and not lumped together.

So the basic principle of this suggestion remains the same -- provide an option to control the edge display for transparent parts specifically. Also, provide an independent control for the opacity of transparent parts.

Another issue is that the "Display Edges" checkbox will make Disabled and Transparent parts display their edges EVEN if the visual style is not an edges-shown style (such as the basic "Shaded" style). This also needs to be fixed. The application option should give permission for edges to be shown in keeping with the visual style, not force them to be shown.

I'm always hungry for more options.. My hunger can never be quenched.. Feed me more options.. More granularity.. More.. More.

I can't believe we have to vote for features like this, things like this should have been implemented when the transparency feature was created...

Why are you mocking about this request? This is actually a useful suggestion. I agree, that there are many things that I would'nt miss, if they're flushed down the toilet, such as the watercolor-visual style (actually, the only visual styles I use are shaded with edges and wireframe (and with the latter, I am a total exception: I haven't seen anything else but "shaded with edges" on any other screen within my company).

So please keep on complaining about obvious crap, but not on things that are potentially useful.

And by the way, what happend to the good old controllability of the visibilities of edges and stuff for the (totally sufficient) set of different visual styles for enabled or disabled components in Inventor 2010??? I really appreciated, that I could see inactive components even in wireframe mode:

Wireframe2010.PNG

Now i got this:

Wireframe2022.PNG

In wireframe mode i cannot see neither disabled nor transparent components, and i don't see anything i can do against this disimprovement in the application options any more! Instead I can control the shadows which I don't care about at all!

@Bert_Bimmel  NO.. not mocking in anyway I am ALWAYS in favor of more user controlled options..

I apologize. Sounded very sarcastic to me. Honestly: In fact, I do often think "less is more". But not always (as in this particular case)

These comments resonate with me... and show shared frustration.  Ability to control visual features on a part-level basis in an assembly model have been basic elements in SOLIDWORKS for years.  I used it for 10+ years before switching jobs and learning Inventor.   Included is a snip from a SW 2013 video found on Youtube.

I'd like to see how the request above falls in the enhancements request tally.
