I and others on my team would appreciate a built-in tool to compare parts. Currently we have to place two parts in an assembly, make them different colors, and attempt to show differences by taking cross-sections at various points. Other CAD packages have this ability, and it would be a beneficial addition to Inventor.
In the meantime, there are a couple of ways you could do this.
1) Place both parts in an assembly and use the "Analyze Interference" tool to visually see what's different between the two parts, like this:
2) Place both parts in an assembly, save the assembly, then create a new part and use the Derive tool to derive the Assembly into your part. You have a number of different options from here. You can use the 'Subtract' option to see only what is unique about one of the parts; or you can use the 'Intersection' option to only see what is identical between the two parts.
This is indeed a really good idea. espacially when there are two complex parts, where the only difference is a hole which has in one part 20mm from the edge and in the other 20,5.... can take a few minutes until you see the difference.
1) Place the parts to be compared in an assembly and constrain them by features that did not change. (verify!)
2) Save assembly.
3) Create a new part.
4) Use "Derive Component" command and point to the previous assembly file.
5) Use the Boolean operations to subtract one part from the other and spot the differences immediately. (if you are subtracting one another and see nothing in both cases, there are no differences).
It takes less to do it than it took to write these instructions...
This is really a good idea, we can compare two parts/assemblies and highlight similarities with one color and dis-similarities with other. Then we can take snaps and show them in presentations

I've been getting parts from another vendor who is using Solidworks. After importing, I sometimes need to see what changed. It would be nice if there was an easier way. Especially when trouble shooting a complex part to see what went wrong.

When I worked on CATIA, it was possible to have comparision between two assembly, two parts or other configuration, and I see all differences with differents colors (yellow : no difference ; green : new version ; red : old version)

On the top of my head I don't remember that this feature is provided by any of our competitors. Also I was told that version comparison is brought into AutoCAD 2019 ...
Requesting for a similar capability in Inventor Pro as well in the future releases having the ability to compare two different versions of a part or a assembly or drawing recognising the editing made with features and if parts were added or removed in a assembly which this feature must clearly point out
For drawings, Design Review can compare an old and new DWF file. This isn't as comprehensive as what you are asking for, but I mention it as something that might help with some of your needs using a tool that is already available.
Hi Aadithya01, Yes, his method will work with assemblies as well. You will have to derive the assemblies into parts first and have these into an assembly. Now you have to derive this main assembly and perform the Boolean operations or just interference detection, whatever your goal is. A "compare part" feature is long overdue. Even better would be the capability to compare multiple parts in assemblies. We create lots of simple flat or formed sheet metal parts, that are very similar to other components that may have already created (often during copy design), and may have been able to be reused. Designers often find it easier (or safer) to recreate in the case something "may" change. This does not take into consideration the downstream time savings in manufacturing (stock quantities, burn, saw, form or other operation programming and routing).
It would be great to be able to compare two assemblies, or a single assembly against a library of parts and identify parts that are identical so that parts can be reused where practical.
Perhaps we could even tap into vault to identify potential duplicate parts.
