Possibility change Convert weldment back to assembly

Hi,
If I convert the assembly to a weldment. I can not go back. When I can not go back, I can not use flexible. When I designed a new machine, where there was a lot of movement, many hydraulic cylinders and many weldments. I forbade my team to use a welding template.

 

 I can determine a static structure. If I want to have a fixed part position, I mark the component fixed. When I design a large set and give the promote and demote components and I decide to change the weldment to a other weldment assembly this is not what I can do. I work in Inventor since version 6 (2002) and in the development of new devices, the welding template is degraded and the welder loses its advantages. Why can not the designer choose himself? When designing new devices, it is very restrictive.

It wouldn't surprise me if after a few years the welding environment gets a complete overhaul including this obvious fix or it gets removed entirely because users are tired of the limitations.  The only real use this environment brings is showing the welds in the model, I could say the auto-annotation portion is useful, but it takes just as much time to set that up as it is to do the manual welding notation in the drawing.  Unless your work absolutely requires you to show the welding on the 3D model itself, it's not worth looking into using it.

While I see no problem with enabling the ability to change back from a weldment to a standard assembly(and have voted for this idea), I think a better solution to the example issue (Flexibility and weldment) would be for them to just give us the ability to make a weldment Flexible.

 

Where I work, it is not uncommon to have some sort of a swiveling mechanism that is captured by a welded-on plate.  In order to use it properly in an assembly, it needs to be Flexible.  In order to fully document its fabrication, it needs to be a Weldment.  Since you can't currently do both, this leads to an annoyed engineer or designer.  There is legitimately such a thing (in the real world) as a movable welded assembly, but Inventor can't accept the combination. 

 

As a simple example, think of any assembly of parts connected by a welded-on hinge.

 

This idea was asking for such a change, but was archived due to lack of interest.

Why not make "Weldment" one of the tabs in the assembly environment kinda like the design tab or at the very least a command panel in the assembly or design tab, why does it need it's own template?

@amundt, the welding portion is an add-in environment to Inventor just like Tube & Pipe, Frame Generator, or Cable & Harness, they need their own tabs since they need to load their specific code from their add-ins.  Although these add-ins have been around for so long it should be obvious to fully implement them into the core software and just let add-ins be more customer specific.

Weldments need an overhaul anyways as they are getting old, I only use it for aesthetics.

@leowarren34 you're previous comment is basically the Welding environment in a nutshell, it doesn't make welding notation in drawings any faster unless you do multiple different drawing files of the same assembly for some reason.  The only real use for the welding environment anymore is to represent the welds in the 3D model itself if only for tolerance' sake.

I will give the context of the related problems here. Positional representations do not work in weldments. Just because something is welded does not mean that everything is welded. Sometimes only one part is welded to an assembly. For example, welding on an assembly.

I created a sketch in a weldment and wanted to constrain it from another component. So Sketch and machining and then constrain to the component and it didn't work.
