Open File & Place Component Dialog boxes

I believe that the current file dialog boxes needed overhauled.

There needs to be a separate column (Not native to the standard Windows file properties) that would show iProperties, such as Description.

Dialog Box Idea - R1.jpg

This would be helpful for generic named files, either files created within a company or downloaded from vendors.

Also,. it would be super helpful to have a "Recents" section that would be populated with either last saved, frequently accessed, or maybe last opened...

This would be a huge help in convincing users to adopt good data management practices. (i.e. no more of having 10 different models called "bracket.ipt" in an assembly)

ejmacchi,

I agree!

We adopted the naming scheme found in the snapshot and there is some resistance by some users becasue it is hard to know what part is which. The naming scheme was adopted because it is so much easier for different program automations, and keeps people from naming files 30 characters long, which also screws up title blocks in drawings. I agree it is difficult to know which part is which, hence the idea, but I normally either draw a part and place immediately, or visually copy from within the master assembly so it doesn't really bother me.

I love the idea of including the description in the dialog box!

Also, from SW, have the currently open parts/assemblies show up so they can easily be accessed for insertion.

Please make this happen! We are forced to use generic part numbers which doesn't really bother me, however, it can be a pain in the a** to find a part when you're working offline or just don't want to open everything through the vault.

When will Autodesk implement this?! This feature is needed to achieve efficient workflow within Inventor!
