Why can't we export text parameters to iProperties for easy use in title blocks? This is so simple and useful, I can't believe it isn't already posted.
Also allow link them between parts, my company has the global parameter file strategy, and a lot of the parameters need to be text, specially part numbers to add library parts for instance.
Colleague of mine asked if it's possible to export text- and/or true/false parameters to be used in derived parts.... It's august 2020, still not possible?
Text parameters need to be exported. I have to implement a workaround involving additional parameters and iLogic which makes my skeleton file bigger and vulnerable to potential issues that could be avoided.
We can derive part, but we can't derive iProperties. Fine, we can derive parameters... but we can't derive text parameters because they can't be exported, at least not from GUI. We can't use text parameters in iParts/iAssembly but we can use iProperties which... are text. We can have text on sketch based on user parameters but not on iProperties....
We can link parameters between parts, but again, only numeric. We can't derive Cost Center from a part nor any Project properties.
Please, be a tiny bit more consistent. I would be glad if Autodesk would focus more on fixing what does not work than on changing user interface.
This has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2024. Please review the Inventor 2024 What's New article here. For more information regarding how you may leverage the feature, and please review this page. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.
I wonder if this means that in Inventor 2024, text parameters can also be defined by and/or used in formulas (concat, textjoin, etc) with any numeric values converted to text output (just like Excel).
