Hi @Anonymous, fortunately there are three existing duplicates of this idea, each with several votes, that it could be merged into. I just reported this to the moderator and asked them to do so.
In the meantime, here they are in case you want to vote/comment on them:
Often I need to replace a model in a drawing, but only in a particular view. If there are (3) views with model A in it and I just need to replace (1) of the models in a view there is no way of doing this that I know of. Currently in the 'Replace Model Reference' dialog it would show model A and if I were to replace it with model B it would replace model A in all (3) views with model B.
We should be able to right click on a view and have the option to replace that model reference in this active sheet, not in the whole document, the only way i have to do this from now is delete and restart the sheet, or enhaced the replace model reference window to let us know wich sheets we are replacing the model and maybe add some option in the window something like search or filter or at least the option to enlarge the window to see the full name of our .ipn/ipt
To add to the above : if there is only one model referenced by the drawing, then this model should be pre-selected in the "Replace Model Reference" window. At the moment we have to select it every single time before going to the file picker
Would be useful to be able to double click on a drawing view and change the model reference file path within the drawing view dialogue popup box. Currently the option to do this is grayed out. I am aware that you can do this via the Manage tab and then Replace model reference. This however replaces all model references throughout the drawing document. My current company does all drawings within one drawing document.
We often have parts or assemblies that are very similar, once a drawing is detailed with dimensions we would like to copy the sheet and replace the file path reference. Hopefully once the new file path is selected most if the dimensions will stay in tact on the copied sheet.
Hi, for me it would be incredibly useful to be able to change file in the 'Edit View' option when right clicking on a view in drawing layout. I use multiple sheets within a .idw file and as such the method currently open to me of using the 'Manage' / 'Replace Model Reference' is of no use because it changes the model reference for every instance throughout every sheet. I need to be able to perform the function on a single sheet, that way I can copy paste sheets and easily swap out the file for another similar part then just **** around the drawing tidying the dimensions and notes rather that having to start every sheet from scratch.
What do you think? At this time I cant think of any reason why this couldn't be accommodated, it would make a BIG difference to my workflow and I'm sure other users would also be pretty grateful of a feature like this.
Not sure if submitted already. It'd be great if there is an option of replacing model reference sheet wise in an .idw file, right now it replacing on all sheets.
By having such option we may use some annotation assigned in a view for any part on other sheet for different part by just replacing model reference in that sheet only w/o affecting original view placed on other sheet.
Being able to change the file path and Representation View for any file type including .ipn of any individual drawing view would be a great add-on in the "Edit View" window. That way you could either Replace the Model Reference in the manage toolbar or individually change the link for a specific View.
Why aren't these boxes available to change in a Drawing file? Why can't we change an ipn View in this window?
When we create the view, we have access to all the views. this should not be locked once the view is created but remain available to change if we need to.
Currently when I'm working my workflow is to create drawings of assemblies for customer review, sometimes only one part changes in length, and maybe have 1 component swap (a flange size). So my current workflow is create an assembly, save a second copy, adjust the length of the part, swap out a component and save as a separate assembly.
When it comes to drawings I usually fully detail one page then I have to copy the sheet to a new drawing replace model reference and copy it back to the original drawing since there isn't an option on the replace model reference dialog to apply to the current sheet only.
Does it work, yes, does it flow like it should in late 2024, no, it does not.
Happy to see this move to future consideration. I know my initial reply was 2ish years ago, and I have to say I'm still hoping for this update as that's a pain in the butt for the workflow still. Even with sheet formats it would still be super great to change the reference geometry by sheet and not as a drawing wide all or nothing.
