Ability to cancel out of sketch (Parker Hannifin)

User would like to be able to CANCEL out of the sketch environment. Currently, if a user creates a sketch that they are not happy with, the have to first finish the sketch and then use the UNDO command to get back to the earlier state, or simply delete the newly created sketch. The CANCEL command would be a cleaner workflow option, requiring fewer clean up steps.

This has probably been asked for before since there are comments on the forums but i can't find anyone putting it on idea station so here goes... How about it but can we please have an exit sketch that disregards changes.

Sometimes you make a change to a sketch see what effect it will have on the model and it throws up a load of un-expected errors or warnings, the only option then is to either undo all the way back to the start of editing the sketch (but thats is limited by the amount of memory alocated to the undo process so may not be enough to get back to the starting point) or go through the process of accepting the changes/errors/warning even though you don't want to then closing and re-opening from the last save (hopefully you remembered to save prior to editing the sketch).

Can this process be simplified to a simple exit sketch without changes? e.g. Inventor could make a temporary save file of the sketch in the current state prior to editing the sketch; if the user selects exit wiouth saving inventor can then revert back to the temporary file or if the user accepts the changes to the sketch the temporary file can be deleted. Effectivly I'd like a group undo for editing the sketch in addition to the currunt undo which reverses each small change such as creating a line or deleting a constraint.

I second this.
It is actually very odd that nobody in the Inventor development team has ever thought about the possibility that the user might want to disregard the changes to a sketch and exit without saving it... It should have been a basic feature.

When modifying a sketch, it is possible to be many steps into the modification and realize that you would like to revert to the original.  As opposed to having to undo 20-30 actions, it would be very helpful to have a "Cancel Sketch" button that would abort the action without saving any changes.

Exiting a sketch without saving is something that I had been doing in Pro/E, Pro/Creo, Catia and solidworks.  Please make this happen in Inventor or provide a passive (i.e. no other input required) to make this happen.  Thanks.

Definitely a feature worth incorporating.  I often start a sketch then decide to go a different direction.  Right now I have to finish the sketch then delete it from the browser.  It would be nice to just cancel with no harm-no foul.

The newest post on here is three years old... is this fixed yet?  I just have transferred over from Creo to Inventor (working at a new company) and have not seen a simple "exit without saving changes" button.  If it is there, my apologies, please let me know.  If not... that needs to be on there.  ASAP.

@Anonymous  I do not think anything has been done.  The only suggestion I have is that you can use undo for just about everything.  So, exit the sketch and then undo.  It is not great - but its something.

I too have found that undo (ctrl Z) is the best way to back out of an unwanted sketch.
