Windows Explorer Crashing After Install Inventor 2026

Hi Arthur,

A few things I would do. Make sure all critical Windows updates and the latest graphics driver are installed. Use Microsoft Disk CleanUp to remove cached files. Lastly, run Inventor as admin.

Thanks @johnsonshiue for your support on this bu I have tried all these things, unfortunately this did not solve the issue. Even now after uninstall Inventor 2026 the dwg file keeps be the problem maker.

Based on the prior discussions, I can share the additional ideas. Please try disabling all non-Autodesk Add-Ins. Use Microsoft Disk Cleanup to remove cached files. Take a look at the following article.

Hi Arthur,

I am sorry I am still clueless. Is this about File Explorer crashing on right-clicking an Inventor file? Have you installed 2026.0.1 update? This could be related to Inventor 2026 registration. Try this. Close all Inventor sessions. Go to CMD and type in the following command.

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2026\Bin\Inventor.exe" /install

Do you have Google Drive installed?   There is a known problem with Inventor 2026 which will sometimes cause Windows Explorer to crash when displaying file previews if Google Drive is installed.

Hi @johnsonshiue this is not solving the issue.

I have both Inventor 2024 2025 installed

and 2026 installed/and uninstalled.

I ran the script above for "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2025\Bin\Inventor.exe" /install

but not solved.

For those having the same problem as below, please read further... 👇

File Explorer crashes when:
Double-clicking a DWG file.
Right-clicking a DWG file.
Right-clicking a DWG file and selecting Properties.

Solution:
✅ Update the Microsoft Office installation package to the latest version.
✅ Update Microsoft Visual software.

I am having the same issue since installing Inventor 2026.1.  Any .dwg file no matter how old will crash when selected even without Inventor running.  One thing ...I went to Default Apps and choose Inventor 2026 and the window says I picked Inventor 2024

So you need to update another program in order for Inventor to not cause a crash?

That seems way off, and NOT the way I'd want to fix the issue IF it occurs, when I install Inv2026 in a month or so.
