Windows 10 Fall Creator Update - Inventor performance issue

Dear all,

I have experienced performance issue after installing the latest Windows 10 Fall Creator Update. I had to wait about 5 sec to invoke more then half commands in average. I have tried to disable all add-ins and looked for any solution without success. Installed all available updates. I was really desperate.

Finally I have tried to roll back to previous build and both Inventor versions (2017 and 2018) are running flawlessly.

I hope it will help.

Best regards

Josef

I agree that focusing on a resolution for Inventor 2016 is the right plan of attack however you said that the fix for 2017 and 2018 was good so why would there be any risk in providing a temporary upgrade WHILE you are working on the 2016 fix? If 17 and 18 are good to go then the BEST TEMPORARY SOLUTION for the customer is to be upgraded and not forced to perform a rollback. That would be the safest way for me to get back the performance and let the project proceed. Your asking me to be patient while you work to move forward to a solution but in the mean time expect me to move backward. I think we should both be allowed to move forward together by you working on a solution and us, the customer moving forward to a temporary 2017 or 2018 upgrade. From that point I will be more than happy to give you guys all the time in the world to resolve the 2016 bug. If you could tell me its only going to be a week or a month then that gives me something to work with. The problems is that you have no idea how long its is going to take so for all anyone knows it could be 6 months down the road or not at all. Autodesk is making zero attempt to work with the customer on this one. Your holding us hostage and saying that we have to do what you say or go without. Give us something to at least make us feel like we arent getting the un-lubricated shaft of big business.

Hi Arron,

I am re-confirming with the project team regarding the definite time frame of the fix. I will let you know when the answer is available immediately. Like I said before, we are trying our best to resolve the issue on 2016.

Many thanks!

Just want to point out that a temporary upgrade to 2017 or 2018 is not going to end well, because you can never again use 2016 on those files.  What happens when the fix is rolled out and you go back to using 2016?

Seems like that is something the Autodesk guy would have brought up the first time I mentioned the idea. I was not aware the files would not transfer so thank you for pointing that out. I guess that cuts down on the options to expedite the issue.

Update for anyone that is still using Inventor 2016 and is suffering from the lag issues:

This past weekend, an update was pushed for windows that had something to do with the meltdown and spectre issue.  I'm not sure what exactly was addressed in this update, but so far (after 3 hours of work) the lag from the constraint command has been significantly improved.  I will report back if it returns later in the day, but I believe it would have returned by now.

This could just be a fluke for my PC, or it could be my imagination, so if anyone could verify this, It might help Autodesk narrow down what is causing the issue.  Sadly, I am fairly sure that this windows update rolled back part of the fix for meltdown/spectre due to AMD users reporting system instabilities, so this "fix" might not last.

Yes, this worked for me too. I manually downloaded KB4058258 and my constraints dialog has gone from 10 seconds to a normal response time. I hope it lasts.

Hello Guys,

We are happen to verify the problem again with Inventor 2016 + Window10 1709 (OS build 16229.309 & OS build 16229.334), the problem is gone in my end, can anyone try to update the Windows 10 to latest version and retest the slower performance problem in your ends?

It seems that Microsoft did fix it already.

Looking forward your comments then.

Thanks!

Tip to confirm the Windows version -

Click Windows start and input CMD to bring up command dialog, input winver and get the detail version number. if it below 16229.309, please update the OS firstly,

Hi Mr. Zhang.  I am currently running OS build 16299.309 and the lag has indeed been resolved for me.  Thank you for looking into this issue.  Apologies for the late reply.

Thank you!
