Windows 10 Fall Creator Update - Inventor performance issue

Anonymous
Not applicable

Dear all,

I have experienced performance issue after installing the latest Windows 10 Fall Creator Update. I had to wait about 5 sec to invoke more then half commands in average. I have tried to disable all add-ins and looked for any solution without success. Installed all available updates. I was really desperate.

Finally I have tried to roll back to previous build and both Inventor versions (2017 and 2018) are running flawlessly.

I hope it will help.

Best regards

Josef

Hi Josef,

Thank for your information.

It sounds unexpected to me, I will follow up with project team to analysis the performance problem to see any clue we can identify.

Thanks!

Josef,

What commands were running slow for you after Windows updated to the Fall Creators update? We have tried it here on several systems but aren't seeing any difference in the commands.

Thanks,

Danny

Hello Danny,

it was quite a lot of commands and it was the same for Inventor 2017 and even Inventor 2018. For example:

- in assembly: Constrain, Bill of Material, Pattern, Place from Content Center,...

- in part: Extrude, Loft, Fillet,...

- in sketch: Circle, Rectangle, Trim,...

- in drawing: Dimension, Bend, Welding,...

I customize Inventor a bit for my purpose with few Add-ins which I have made. I have disable them as the first step but it did not help.

I did not think about any reinstall as I red read some post here on forum. After roll back everything works perfect.

Hi Jof,

I have a Surface Pro 4 with this update... no issues.

Have you tried doing the reset utility?

Hi all,
I have found the source of the performance issue. It is antivirus ESET. Performance issue disappeared after I uninstalled antivirus.

I will update my post when I will find the right antivirus setting.

Hi Gents,

For what it's worth, I can state to be suffering the same "lag" issue with several of the commands. The worst behavior I get is from constraint and flange (sheet metal). I also think it has something to do with latest windows version (1709). I've addressed this issue to autodesk and hope they'll find a proper solution soon, because now it kills my workflow so badly.

Hi Gents,

as I wrote I have found the root cause for lags and it was the antivirus I was wrong. All the lags came back.

Finnaly I had to reinstall my laptop and not allowed Windows 10 to update itself to latest version.

It might sound strange, but it's rather satisfying to hear it wasn't your anti-virus...

  1. I was experimenting with it myself, disabling all processes, firewall,... and so on.
  2. Thought it was my "3D-connection" mouse/software that was interfering with Inventors latest update.
  3. I also use a "Razer Naga Epic" mouse and was thinking that it was the "Razer synapse" cloud based software that was causing this issue.

Nothing really helped untill I've start thinking about the "Windows Fall Creator Update".

(Even in Excel, windows 1709 makes the cursor flicker while typing something in cells)

Unlucky for me, it wasn't an update but a straight-on installation, so I can't switch to an older version of Windows - as there is none.

As mentioned before, I've adressed this to Autodesk and already received a probable solution (which didn't help by the way).

(They thought it had something to do with my virtual page file that wasn't set correct...)

So, I must keep working on a very, very, very sluggish inventor system, which is making me go bold, pretty fast. Smiley Frustrated

Hope they'll find a solution soon, as 6 seconds to open a command is something else!

Best Regards,

Hi again,

Can either of you try the temporary solution below and report back the result?

Try to uninstall KB4043961 update.

Thanks as usual!

Dear Xun Zhang,

I've uninstalled the update "KB4043961" as requested,  without any results...

After rebooting, constraining goes faster but as more time passes, the 5 sec. delay is getting back.

(the same behavior as when the update was still installed.)

Hi Xun Zhang,

I have the same experience. I tried to uninstall some windows updates, uninstall different drivers or tried different versions. At the end I uninstall antivirus. Each time I uninstalled something the performance was improved for while but it came back.

Finally I had to reinstall my laptop and now I run all Autodesk products without any problem. Honestly I am afraid to update to latest Windows update. Maybe I will get spare laptop so I will try to update windows to latest update and test it.

Best regards

Just want to join in, I have the same problem. Same on both my computers, one of which is a completely fresh windows install 2 days ago. This was installed with a  Windows 10 pro 1709 ISO.

I use Inventor 2017, and placing constraints is now driving me nuts Smiley Mad

I would also like to know. Updated to 2018 finally, problem remains. Constraining box takes 15+ seconds to open with my PC going into "not responding" mode before it finally loads. Really slowing me down.
