Using Positional representation in inventor studio error.

I tried to use Pos Reps to make a simple animation in inventor studio in Inventor professional 2019.

The pos reps in the main assembly controlled pos reps in sub-assemblies. Is there a reason that this does not work? I can't seem to get the animation working?

If i manually click, Position1, Position2, Position3, Position4 in the normal modeling environment. Everything looks fine. But when i use these pos reps in an animation, nothing happens? or a bit movement?

Does anybody know what I’m doing wrong?

Hope anybody can help...

@b_ruijter

Here's my advice on this subject matter...

Animating positional reps work the best when the positional rep is solely at the top of the assembly.  When positional reps start driving other positional reps (buried in the main assembly), you may have to make those (buried) positional reps flexible.   In the end positional reps that are buried just may not work at all.   Remember Inventor studio hasn't really changed in many releases.

Realy???

Thanks for the reply, i'll let you know how it will turn out.

Not quite sure how i do this with the flexible. You mean, the sub-assembly's flexible, and constrain it in the toplevel assembly?

Hi! If you can share an example, I can help take a look to understand the behavior better. There are indeed some confusing behaviors in flexible and positional representation.

Many thanks!

Hello @b_ruijter I see that you are visiting as a new member to the Inventor Forum.
Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Here are a few good resources going over Flexible Assemblies and how to set the sub-assemblies to flexible:

Help: About Flexible assemblies

Cadline: Inventor: Quick Tip - Flexible Assemblies

If you want to attach you assembly with Pack & Go as .zip for others to inspect that would be helpful!

Hi,

In the original file there is more. But this is the problem in a nutshell. I made for pos reps, Activate them shows the desired motion. As soon as i use Inventor studio (i made a Animation1 wher i animate the pos reps, so you can check) something is moving. But inventor forgets half the motions.

Is this a bug in inventor? Or am i doing someting wrong?

Hi! This could be a bug or something isn't set up correctly in the PosRep. It is hard to comment further without seeing the files. Please share the Inventor files (in zip) you are working on here or send it to me (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com) directly. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!
