I looked at my uninstall tool and it seems the whole desktop connect service is missing.

Looks like you need to install the Desktop Connect service and the Tutorial plugin, using the AutodeskDesktopConnect.msi and AutodeskGuidedTutorialPlugin.msi mentioned in my previous post.

Also need to resolve the permissions issue to the "C:\Users\Public\Documents" folder, or the tutorials will not work.

Thanks,

Danny

when I navigated to the folder that is getting the error, the .desktop-connect does not exist.

You (or have your IT department) will need to check, the Windows NTFS permission so the C:\Users\Pubilc\Documents\Autodesk folder. Probably mainly the Creator Owner group, like in the image below.

All the Tutorials are stored under the folder "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\.desktop-connect", by default users will have access to write to this folder. These permissions were changed and need to be rest for the Tutorials be able to work.

Thanks,

Danny

Hi Danny,

I'm not quite following how to do that, which image below are you referring to? Also, it is my personal computer so I'm not sure what could be the issue.

However, when I navigate to the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\ folder,  .desktop-connect does not exist there.

See picture below, .desktop-connect is not in the location specified in the error.

Sorry the image didn't come through for some reason, attaching it again.

Basically you go to C:\Users\Public\Documents, right click on the Autodesk folder and select Properties. Then on the Security tab choose Advanced.

Thanks,

Danny

It seems that I have given Full Control, yet it isn't working.

Why is the .desktop-connect folder missing from the Autodesk folder? Could this be the issue?

I am a professor teaching from home this semester and I am over our Autodesk software for the college.

l have tried multiple suggestions from forums and nothing seems to work. There are is not an icon for tutorials on the ribbon panel under "Get Started" / My Home...

My classes start next week... Please, I really need this for my students!!!!!

Jeff,

This could one of two things.

1. The Interactive Tutorial addin isn't loaded. From Tools ribbon select Addins, look for the Interactive Tutorial and make sure it is set to Loaded and Load Automatically.

2. If the Interactive Tutorial doesn't even show up in the Addin manager then the Tutorial Plugin isn't installed. To install it you can manually run the MSI's. For a default file extraction they can be found at a path like "C:\Autodesk\Inventor_Pro_2021_English_Win_64bit_Dlm\x64\LWS". You will want to install both the AutodeskDesktopConnect.msi and AutodeskGuidedTutorialPlugin.msi (if prompted for anything just take the defaults). After these are installed reboot and start Inventor again.

Thanks,

Danny

Danny,

thanks for the help.  #2 was the issue and that got the tutorials loaded.

One other challenge I have run into today since I posted.  Not sure if you can help me with Revit, but here goes.

For what ever reason I can not get Revit 2021 to activate.  All of my other products were smooth as silk but I keep getting they Get 1 Free advertisement when I load up REVIT.  There are actually two of these things sitting on top of each other and it won't let me sign in and activate.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled it twice.  Not matter which options I choose it never gives me the option to activate.

thanks,

Jeff
