Standard Parts Library - Naming Issue

Hi,

I am setting up a standard parts library in Autodesk Inventor as a personal project. However I have encountered a couple challenges. I have utilized online resources such as Inventors help section where I noticed that your account has given remarkable assistance to those in need. If you could please help, that would be greatly appreciated.

I have used Inventor's Content Center to create differently sized parts from a standard part. I modelled the part, created a new library in the Content Center, created a category in that library using the Editor and then published the part to that library. Now, I understand that I can place one of these differently sized parts into an assembly when I select the "Place from Content Center" icon. However, is there a way to open one of these differently sized parts as a part file? What I would like to do is assign a part number and description to each differently sized part. I can assign a part number and description to the original file but not to the differently sized parts I have created from the original part.

I am new to Inventor and have just begun to understand the program. I may not have used the correct terms above when I described the problem. Please let me know if you do not understand something and I can better explain. Thank you for your time.

Keith

You should input ALL info before you publish them in Content Center.

You should be able to edit the table and add info.

Another thing is, you don't need to model part to add size.

Create a new library.  Copy or link a standard part to the new library.

You should be able to edit the Family Table to add new size and change part number.

I made Gr8 and A325 Hex Bolt this way.

@kappah a

Perhaps you will want to review this 3 part article on Working with Content Center

Also my buddy @cbenner  has Content Center articles on his blog site https://cadtipstricks.wordpress.com/category/autodesk-inventor/

Thank you for your response. However I do not completely understand your answer and have a couple questions to ask.

How do I input all information before I publish to the Content Center? Do I use the create iPart function? Second, the parts I am creating are unique and I cannot find a standard part that already exists that is close to the one I am creating.

Also the main problem I am having is assigning a unique part number and description to the different parts. For example, I have created a flange with a diameter of 3" and assigned a name to the part file. From this flange I have created others with a diameter of 4" and 5". I can only insert these flanges into an assembly. I would like to open these flanges, diameter 4" and 5", as part files and assign them appropriate names. How can I do that?

Use CC editor and edit Family Table.

You can add part number, description.

Also add different size.

If you make the part iPart, you don't need to put it in CC.

Yes, I made my parts library using the Content Center editor. Is there a way to create a separate part file for each different part that I created in the Family Table and give it a unique name? For example, I have created a 3 different flanges using the Content Center editor from a single part file. The part file is named "3 inch Flange.ipt". Through this part file I have created the 4" and 5" flange with the Content Center editor. Can I open the part files for the 4" and 5" flanges and assign them names? I don't want to assign the names in the Family Table but in the part family.

ie "3 inch Flange.ipt", "4 inch Flange.ipt""5 inch Flange.ipt"

Yes, you can set it up to use different filename.

Same can be done with iPart.

You may want to read the links Mark posted.

Thank you. I have read the articles and blog but neither satisfies what I am aiming to accomplish. I appreciate your help nonetheless and will continue what I have started.

Provide more detail on what you're trying to do.

Attach the part file if possible.

Attach the library file if possible.

Are you making flange for routing?

I have not made a new CC component in years....

Try placing a piece of structural steel from the Content Center.  You should see a radio button to place it "As Custom"  that should allow you to save it with a name/in a location of your choice.  See if your published CC flange parts have that option.  If not, you may need to adjust some settings/publish options.  The links already posted should point you in the right direction.
