Save as IPT and STEP when saving in part window

I have an addon that makes it so when I hit save in a drawing it also saves it as a pdf in the same location. I would like something similar so when I am in an assembly/part and I hit save the part is saved as the .IPT or .IAM but in the same folder a STEP file is created along with it. Is this possible?
