I need to replace an old title block with a new title block in Inventor 2018.  How do I accomplish this?

Thanks in advance,

Well, for whatever reason, the Wizard did not switch the title blocks with 100% accuracy, haphazardly scattering the text and symbols as pictured below.

Any ideas what might be the issue?

There "were" some reported issues not too long ago where the first titleblock would update properly but subsequent ones (done in the same batch) were not processed properly..

I thought those issues were addressed in an update not too long ago.. Not sure if thats whats happening to you though..

This could be a different issue..

@johnsonshiue... I will call Johnson to help here and he can take a look at your files and see whats going on and if there is a bug/issue he can get it recorded so it can be fixed..

Hello @Anonymous I see that you are visiting as a new member to the Inventor Forum.
Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

That definitely doesn't look right. Was the old template block information fully constrained or just laid down without constraints?

When you go into the new drawing block are the setup constraints broken?

It looks like some stayed put, was wondering if they had constraints and the other didn't. Might have to look at the files and how the wizard handled them.

Hello, @kelly.young.  Thanks for your help.

The old title block is partially constrained, but the new one is fully constrained.

I have attached the files.

Thanks again for your help,
Travis

@Anonymous thank you for supplying the files to inspect. It appears that you are migrating from 2014 to 2018.

From what I have researched, with that large of a jump in releases you might see issues.

Ideally a jump of 1 release we will ensure proper migration, 2 releases should function as well, but any more you might see these types of issues.

If you have the ability to jump from 2014-2016-2018 this migration error might be eliminated. If you have been on a subscription basis you should be able to install 2016 and take care of this.

Not sure if that is the answer you are looking for but wanted to give you the information I found. If anyone has additional suggestions please let us know.

@kelly.young I believe I had read somewhere from something posted by an Autodesk Employee that the suggestion for migration was now to migrate AS NEEDED.

If this is true, then any company who leaves a file for more than 2 years in between use will run into issues that they wouldn't have if they were told to migrate all files during every version change.

Seems a little misaligned currently.

Thanks for the input @MechMachineMan I will continue to investigate this and might have to redact my statement if it is not correct but wanted to provide a workaround if possible.

I've had it be a text style issue.

The drawing you put the new title block into may be right justifying things that were set to be left justified when you created it or something. It helps to have specific text styles just for any special text, or really any text at all that goes in symbols or special borders as well. That should help when it goes into drawings that may have had styles that were different or that someone may have changed for whatever reason.

Although, while some of it may be line spacing, some of it appears to be more lines of text than "cells" for the text to go in and some of it appears to be doubled - and are those symbols even text? I've never seen the third angle projection thing in wingdings - so maybe there is something else entirely going on there.

Hi Travis,

The behavior is wrong. The issue you report here seems to be a different one than what Brian was talking about. There was bug in recent Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard leading to working only for the first target drawing file. It has been fixed on 2017 and 2018 updates.

Could you tell me the exact process and the files you use to reproduce the behavior?

Many thanks!

You are welcome @kelly.young.  Again, thanks for your help.  I am going to consult our company's IT guy about migration next week when he returns from his vacation.  My tenure at this company has only been under Inventor 2018, so it seems reasonable to consult him about this issue.

Hi @johnsonshiue,

Thanks for your help, sir.  Below is the process, step-by step, that I have went through:

Drawing Process Transfer Wizard 2018
> Click "Next"

> Select the Source Drawing ("CFS Standard 3_5) in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2018\Templates

> Click "Next"

> Select "Old Title Block post Wizard.idw"

> Click "Next"

> Select "Yes" (or "No"- I have tried both)
            > Click "Next"

> Click "Start"

> Click "Exit"

Hey @dan_inv09,

I'll look into the text discrepancy possibility.  Thank you.
