Replace Model Reference (.iam with .ipt ?)

Hi all

Having read a similar post

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/replace-model-reference-iam-with-ipt/m-p/3065154#M4055...

I see this is not a new issue at all.

I also have found a workaround.

I create a  new assembly with only the one part in it, that I want to replace.

I agree with the previous post that it would be useful to have that functionality in Inventor,

which apparently Solidworks does have.

Hi! I have heard similar request before and it has been discussed internally. Unfortunately, there is no straight forward solution to do that technically. I recall there are similar ideas on Inventor Ideas forum. Please kudo the idea.

Many thanks!

I have a drawing that has broken links - the links are broken because they used to point to an assembly (iam) they now point to a part (ipt).  I can't FIX it because it was broken in a way that is supposedly technically impossible.

I can't send anyone the file unless you want to sign a Draconian NDA (the process for which I can't even initiate), so trust me, version 29 works fine, version 30 has broken links pointing to the wrong type of file.  If it can be done by accident, it can be done on purpose.

I was able to use the Vault Copy Design and Replace the drawing's reference from the part with a reference to an assembly (after several Vault crashes and warnings).  HOWEVER, when I go to open up the drawing, all the drawing views are blank!

Yes, because all the referenced points, edges, faces are gone.
