Render clear cover and see product details behind it / white background.

My display settings are as follows below. I prefer to render using a white background (transparent background using the alpha channel of PNG is not possible when using GPU raytracing) I do it this way so it can look seamless PowerPoint presentation.

Before selecting "Ray Tracing" My product looks like this. Pretty good and the details of the object behind the clear part are visible.

When I select ray tracing the object behind clear cover has no details but the clear device its self looks decent. Pay notice I do not want to use the grey "display scene image" that is associated with the "photo booth environment" so it was unchecked.

However if I chose to use the "display scene image" that is associated with the "photo booth environment. the clear cover looks good and the device behind is great. I do not want the clear cover to look tinted grey so this is not a usable render.

What am I missing? I am trying to get high quality renders on a white background. Open to all suggestions.

Hi

Check the properties of the transparent material.

This is the result I get using these material settings. I can check but I need to understand through an explanation of what is going on.

Hi! Depending on your graphics card and what Inventor release you are on, you may try the GPU rendering option in 2023. Go to Tools -> App Options -> Hardware -> GPU Ray Tracing option. If your graphics card supports it, you may turn on the option. Then go to Visual Styles -> Realistic -> turn on Ray Tracing. Does it look nicer?

Many thanks!

Hi Mr. Shiue,

I am indeed using the GPU ray tracing the progress bar can be seen in the lower right of my previous screenshots.

I am on Inventor 2023 latest release with all updates. I have a GPU approved for "native ray tracing" NVIDIA RTX A2000 Laptop GPU. Rendering is extremely fast which is not an issue. This issue is for some reason the objects behind the clear parts are black it is like ray tracing is not letting the light through.

NOTE: from Autodesk approved lists

Hi! It could be a bug. Another thing you may try is to use a different lighting style. The lighting style can alter the appearance greatly.

Many thanks!

I confirm that none of the lighting styles produce a usable clear representation image unless the "display scene image" box is checked. this is not ideal for presentations needing a white background.

Simply stated if you have objects behind a clear material then you will not see the object.

Hi @johnsonshiue , I understand this is a glitch. Is there any way that you can help me find a solution or put me in contact with someone who can?
