Punch Tool creation help

Hi all,

A colleague & I have been trying and failing all day to create a punch tool from scratch.

I did however manage to modify the geometry of the Dimple & Hole example here:

http://www.cbliss.com/inventor/iFeatures/index.htm

Can anyone point me in the direction of step-by-step instructions for how to a) build the iFeature correctly and b) how to then extract it so that the orientation is not FUBAR when you insert it using the punch tool.

Attached are the dimensions I need.

This shape when revolved about the centreline should produce a 'dimple' effect in the sheet metal part.

Thanks,

Alex.

Thanks for the links mcgyvr; the first one is exactly what we needed. Smiley Happy

Speaking of which, do you have any idea why if I use as my centre point the point circled in the attached image; that the resultant iFeature doesn't align as you would expect?

Can you attach the punch file and the part you pictured here?

Make sure when creating the Punch tool that you delect any autoprojected origin centerpoints from the sketches.

Hi there!

After 14 years, none of those links work any more>

Could anyone please point me to a more recent set of instructions for creating a sheet metal punch tool in Inventor?

You might think there would be such a thing within the Autodesk help docs for Inventor, but if there is, I can't find it!

cheers

Simon

If you still have more questions in terms of creating a reusable punchtool, please start a new thread. The forum experts can help take a look.

Many thanks!
