Part doesn't insert into drawing

I have a part from which I wish to create a drawing.  I pull up a drawing from the template; go to 'Place Views --> Base'; move the cursor onto the drawing area - and nothing happens!

What would be stopping the part appearing in the drawing?

No issues here:

I'm using IV2018.1

From what i could tell you don't have the .1 update yet, maybe that could help.

All works fine here.

Could you please tell us a little bit more about your inventor version and workstation.

I can't follow why version would matter because I have done dozens of drawings since upgrading to 2018 and not had this problem.

My machine is Intel QuadCore i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 32 GB RAM, running MS Windows 10 Home on an MSI B75MA-P45 motherboard.
It was assembled by Net Solution Computers of Morley, Western Australia, and has a SAMSUNG U28D590D VDU driven by an NVIDIA QUADRO K620 Video Card and RealTek High Definition Audio.
I have Windows Defender as Anti-virus with Firefox and Skype running in the background.

Can you see your file in the base view window dialog? If the file is not open (in memory) then Inventor won’t select the file automatically for you.

I am pretty sure that’s not the case here but can you confirm this for us please?

and here

but I don't know anything about a 'base view window dialog'.  How do I find that?

How do you place a model in a drawing?

open the drawing, click the base view icon and browser for your part if the part is not open (in memory) already.

if you can't see a base view window dialog that might be because it opens off-screen, like if you changed from dual monitor to single monitor or from docking station to laptop only.

Would you believe it?  I just pulled up a drawing, I clicked on Place Views --> Base' like always and

If Inventor was a Microsoft product I would just accept this as being temperamental.  I thought Autodesk was different ;}

Thanks folks.  It seems to have cleared up.
