Logging

Is there a way of (exra) logging of inventor running issues, to find out why inventor hangs and takes so long after I click the open button (20 secs)?

Hi Johan,

We use two free Microsoft tools for this purpose internally. Process Explorer and Process Monitor. The former shows the call stack that the developers can tell if something is happening unreasonably. The latter is like a system logging tool. You can monitor Inventor.exe and see what it is doing in real time.

Both can be downloaded from Microsoft.

Many thanks!

Thank you

@johnsonshiue

I send you the logfile by wetransfer. maybe your engineers can have a look and help me finding the issue.

I started Inventor, selected a projectfile and hit "open". Than I have to wait 20-30 seconds which seems extremely long before doing anything.

Hi Johan,

The pml file you sent me does show you are using Vault. Please try unloading Vault Add-In and see if it makes a difference. It will help pinpoint the problem.

The other thing like I mentioned in the email is to check if your machine access Appearance and Material Library from a shared network drive. Try changing the Library to local drive.

Many thanks!

For Vault use it is indeed better to have all files stored/handled in vault and have them locally.

This will have an huge impact on the performance.

By means of:

  • library files
  • design library
  • Content Center library
  • Material and appearance library
  • etc

@johnsonshiue @bradeneuropeArthur

You see Vault is installed in the logs, because we are in the process of testing Vault, but it is not used actively yet.

The slowlyness was there before we installed the Vault test environnement.

How can I check if none network shared libraries are used?

Hi Johan,

Like I replied in the email, please check Project settings (Get Started -> Project). Hover to Appearance and Material Library and see the full path.

Many thanks!
