Kwiksert and 2021 and beyond???

We have found that Kwiksert is MASSIVELY helpful, not just to quickly repeat fasteners in holes but to pattern parts and sub-assemblies around and have them be individual things rather than a pattern. Unfortunately the author has retired and is no longer going to do any updates on this software.    https://www.kwikmcad.com/

This would be a GREAT thing to have in the base Inventor or for someone else to take over this software.  Does anyone know if there are any plans to allow this functionality after 2020 as losing this will be a giant step BACKWARDS for rapid design with Inventor?

Kwiksert is very simple and very useful for those of us who place multiple fasteners into multiple holes..

Personally I have always wanted Autodesk to incorporate that simplicity into the "Assemble" command or open up Autodrop to be more universal

OMG!

I didn't realize I would lose this when I upgraded to 2021!

It feels like a downgrade because of it!

This needs to be added to the native software.

It could be as simple as a checkbox in the insert constraint that says "copy first pick".

You can try to contact Kent.

See what it need to get the code.

Someone can take over and give him some royalty.

He doesn't program anymore and if someone wanted to work on this, they can try to get the code from him.  He is retired and does woodworking now.  I personally have little interest in trying revamp software to run with Inventor 2021 so if someone else wishes to, they could contact him.  Or maybe Autodesk would like to take his code and INCORPORATE IT INTO INVENTOR ITSELF.   Just saying.

I am using InsertPlus not, works pretty good but I did like Kwiksert better.

I tried to buy this and the guy has fallen off the face of the planet ... If anyone wants to remove the trial limitation I can help as I have managed to crack it. Don't want to rip this guy off if he is still out there, so am not publishing the crack but will give the information to those who need it.

I just dont get it WHY the Inventor team will not add this functionality to Inventor.  Users have been asking for this for years (10+ at least).  Seems like it would be simple to do and add so much productivity to anyone that adds multiple instances in an assembly.

Sorry, I just saw this thread.

Kent passed away last year. I have taken over the management of licenses to help his wife. If you need licensees please DM me.

Also it is possible to run these apps on 2021 and 2022. Just follow the below procedure:

  1. Browse to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\KWiKMcad_KWiKSert_64.bundle\Contents
  1. Open KWiKMcad.KWiKSert_64.Inventor.addin in Notepad
  2. Increment the highlighted numbers by 1

<Addin Type="Standard">

<!--Created for Autodesk Inventor Version 16.0-->

  <ClassId>{4d7a96c3-1e22-4cc0-bf27-c77e4de1e426}</ClassId>

  <ClientId>{4d7a96c3-1e22-4cc0-bf27-c77e4de1e426}</ClientId>

  <DisplayName>KWiKSert_64</DisplayName>

  <Description>Quickly Insert and Constrain Components</Description>

  <Assembly>KWikSert_64.dll</Assembly>

  <LoadOnStartUp>1</LoadOnStartUp>

  <UserUnloadable>1</UserUnloadable>

  <Hidden>0</Hidden>

  <SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>17..</SupportedSoftwareVersionGreaterThan>

<SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>26..</SupportedSoftwareVersionLessThan>

  <DataVersion>1</DataVersion>

  <UserInterfaceVersion>1</UserInterfaceVersion>

</Addin>

  1. Save the file
  2. Restart Inventor
  3. Ensure the add-in is not blocked on the Add-Ins page in Inventor
  4. That should do it

Aw man, that's rough to hear.

Kent was already a legend in the community when I started using IV back in 2003. His contributions were and still are invaluable.

RIP

Thanks for the update and workaround @corym

@corym, thanks for passing that info along and please send our deepest condolences to his wife.  Very sad news.

On a positive note, thank you very much for taking over this app.   Many of us use that dozens of times a day and we are still on 2020 but upgrading to 2022 soon.  I'll DM you just to get the conversation going as we would like to retain having this wonderful tool in our toolbox, Kent has saved us untold 'days'  (probably months) of engineering time with KwikSert .

Thanks again!

Hey Cory,

We just upgraded to 2022 and no Kwiksert.  Edited the KWiKMcad.KWiKSert_64.Inventor.addin file as per your instructions (by the way, nothing is highlighted in the post so we assume we're changing 16 to 17, and 25 to 26), restarted Inventor and no Kwiksert.  Doesn't even show up in the Add-ins window.

2021-10-15_092142.jpg

Also uninstalled it, reinstalled it, re-edited the file, fired up 2022 and nothing.

Any help?

Try incrementing again: 18/27

(I have a feeling that 2021 = 26 and 2022 = 27...

Hi Cory,

You are one step forward. 2021 = 25 and 2022 = 26 (the math does not make sense, sorry!).

Many thanks!

Hello Johnson - that is strange - it needs to be incremented to 27 in the addin config file for it to run in 2022.

I upgraded to Inventor 2022.

I now have Kwiksert_64 showing up in the application but it now states I need to register.

My lic file is in the folder.

Here is the text from the email link in Kwiksert.

Registration Request Code

Can I get a new lic file to see if it will work?

I have been using this program for over 6 years now.

Thanks,

Robert Doty

Hey @corym is there a way we can donate to Kent's widow ?  Kwiksert has saved me a lot of time and it would be great to give a little back.

Cheers.
