Joint repair error

I have been happily using joint constraints, but I have been experiencing a bug which I hope someone can help me with.

When I change geometry which breaks an existing joint contstriant I am having problem repairing the joint. If there is more than one broken constraint and I don't delete the other broken constriants I am not repairing, Inventor will not allow me to repair the joint. There is no button to accept the broken constriants and I must click ok or cancel. This is a little frustrating, but what happens next is worse. The parts and constraints in the browser no longer highlight when I select them and any further work will not be stored in memory, even if the work is saved. Eventually the software crashes and I lose any work performed after the last save before the error. My practice now is to save after this occurs and re-start my whole machine. This seems to be the only failsafe mode for managing how much work is lost.

Is Autodesk aware of / fixing this error?

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

I absolutely hate this error.... it's hard not to use every negative word I have in my vocabulary to describe my feeling about it :))

Hope it gets fixed soon.

in regards to loose of work and crashed I must admit that I am not getting that. Have you installed latest service packs and updates?

I tried joints (not "joint constraints", they are two seperate kinds of relationships) a few times and then returned to using constraints.  I don't see benefits that outweigh the downsides, though I'm not using Dynamic Simulation-- that would probably tip the balance.

I actually like them especially since you need only one for every 3 constraints.

What I don't like is that you need to select faces and edges and that goes hard against my rule to pick origin features as much possible.

They are recommended with large assemblies if only they would work properly....

I find joints a very fast way of constraining components, but this error is frustrating. I'm glad to know I'm not doing something wrong though!

Anyone have any updates on this?

I cant get it to work on my computer.

Maybe Inv 2017 fixes it?

Does it need to be posted in the IdeaStation to be flagged as a bug for Autodesk to look at?

I really like the intention of this function, but still not usable, unfortunately.

Hi, I am looking into it. It seems that I can't get the exactly behavior for the crash ones or highlight ones, for the warning dialog without Edit option is existed in my side. Can someone help upload a dataset (small one) to me or email to me @ Xun.zhang@autodesk.com with a little bit more information about how crashes or highlight problem happens in your end, I try to catch it and reply back in this thread.
Thank you for your help in advance!

Hi,

My original error occurred when an assembly was constrained using joints.
If the models changed sufficiently enough to break numerous joints you
can't repair each joint one by one as the joints in error state will not
allow you continue after repairing the first error. As I said, there is no
accept option like there is with traditional constraints. The only option
is to suppress all constraints and unsuppres them one by one. This error
state can freeze the design history and also crash your machine.

Hope this helps.

Thank you All for the help, yes, as what've replied in previous thread, the Accept button missing is a problem to me. it was tracked internally and the track ID = Bug59663, By the way, the unstable state is caused by accept option missing, so let fix the problem first and then see what's going on.

Thanks again for all of your great help, I will reply back for any progress if we have.
