Import Rhino 3D Model

Dear Forum,

I have a large 3D model in Rhinoceros 3D that I need to import/upload into Inventor. I can export from Rhino as .step or do I import as native rhino .3dm?

Regards,

Oliver

Hi Oliver,

Either way should work. You can also export it to SAT 7.0. Inventor can import SAT files too.

Many thanks!

Thank you very much, for your reply.

The Rhino model has all the different components as layers and sub-layers. Once imported is there a way to add the layers as components in the properties tree, as if it were modeled in Inventor?

Thanks Oliver

Importing to Inventor will just give you geometry, I don't believe you will get layers or other Rhino specific information. Please also check that you are on at least dot 3 release of whatever version you are using as that's when the latest translators are added.

Thank you for your reply.

Is it possible to select the individual imported Rhino geometry in Inventor, and define it as solids, components or bodies?

Thanks ,

Oliver

I don't have a Rhino file to test, but I believe you get whatever is in Rhino. So if it's a surface in rhino, you'll get that in Inventor, if it's solid, you'll get solid.

Thank you very much for your help. I will get started and see what's imported.

Many thanks,

Oliver
