How to dimension to a Insert Sketch Symbol?

How to dimension to a Insert Sketch Symbol?  I know it is very easy in AutoCAD, but inventor Dimension does not see my sketches. I am adding power and speaker locations to a room. I just need approximate locations.

It would be a hardship to have to model and insert speakers in the drawing.  I did that with track lighting bars.

I need to do the same with the Cat6, power, dimmers

You can't..

You could place a work point at those locations though I believe..

another workaround here..

Hi ck1way-work,

I've had to do this in the past for some layout type work, and have done this:

  1. Select a View
  2. Create a sketch
  3. Project Geometry (you must select a view in step 1 to be able to project geometry)
  4. Create sketch lines
  5. Finish the sketch
  6. Place the symbols inserted on the sketch geometry
  7. Hide the sketch geometry

Note: In the video I used a layer to hide the geometry, but this might hide your sketch symbol geometry too, depending on your layer set up. So you might need to move the sketch geometry to a different layer and turn that layer off.  Or use the Sketch Only button when editing the sketch to make the lines only visible when editing the sketch (see image below).

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
