Dear forum users,
I have a question about creating a movie in Inventor. It is for me possible to create a simple rotating movie, or change angles/positions of parts of the assembly. However, I do not want to do that.
I would like to make a movie in which my assembly 'get's sliced' by a plane and reveals the internals of the assembly. More or less I mean something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyLfJGDbKqk (not my video, not my assembly)
The purpose of this is an instructional movie to clarify to the viewer the cross sectional drawing from this assembly.
Any help on where to start would be much appreciated.
With kind regards,
Toby

Hi Toby,
Welcome to this Forum.
I guess you like to do this: http://blogs.rand.com/manufacturing/2013/07/recording-a-section-view-going-through-an-assembly.html
Hello, mdavis22569,
Thanks for replying and Is should have mentioned the version... I am working with Inventor 2014
is it possible to use a presentation file to create a movie? Autodesk customer support told me that the only option is to use Inventor Studio, and they continued by saying I should check the internet how to use it.
Regards,
Toby
@ admaiora
Thanks for responding. I am not sure if I can use Showcase. I suspect it is not automatically part of Inventor?
@ robert.vdrijst
Thank you, that is exactly what I meant. I am going to dive in it asap. Hope it will work for version 2014.
regards,
Toby
Hi Toby,
no, Showcase is not present in Inventor but often is present in the Product/Collection Suites.
If you haven't it, you can animate the cutting plane in this way.

Set internal color properties of part files. (must be done at the part level).
Extrude-Cut feature in assemblyt driven by Parameter.
Animate Parameter in Studio.
Done!
Hello everybody,
Thank you so much for your quick response! It was really helpfull.
In the end I used the solution that admaiora as submitted.
@ admaiora, thank you.
It is my sentiment that creating a movie in inventor is still WAY to cumbersome and complicated. I am convinced that that Inventor should implement an easier way. However, in the end I got the movie I wanted.
Best Regards,
Toby
