Format Text Window Missing Options and Glitching Out

Hi everyone,

I've been having trouble recently with an extremely annoying bug regarding the Format Text window. When I double click note text, the Format Text window is either offset or generally corrupted as seen below.

MicrosoftTeams-image.png

This is annoying but can be mostly fixed by resizing the window, although some of the buttons sometimes ghost in the empty toolbar space. On top of that, many of the text editing options (justify, bullet list, single line, and style) are missing entirely and the space where they would normally be cannot be clicked.

MicrosoftTeams-image (1).png

However, on very rare occasions, the window will pop up with all options intact and no off-centering whatsoever. All buttons can now be clicked (with the exception of single line, which is always grayed out for some reason).

MicrosoftTeams-image (2).png

The seemingly random glitching of the Format Text window has made my workflow nearly impossible, as I need to add bulleted lists and single line notes to my drawings. I am using Inventor Professional build 350 release 2022.3.1.

I also have a multi-monitor setup, and am not sure if that might be causing it (although testing with a single monitor yielded the same results).

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! Maybe you want to try resetting Inventor using Inventor Reset Utilities. We have users reported that it helped. But, so far we are not yet able to reproduce the behavior.

A few other things to consider.

1) Make sure the recommended Windows Display and Scale options are selected.

2) Right-click on Inventor desktop icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> "Change High DPI settings" -> check both boxes.

3) Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment variables -> create "QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR” and set it to 0.

Many thanks!

Alexander and Johnson, I updated to the 2022.4 version and did all of your steps in the last reply. I reset Inventor using the Reset Utility, checked that my Windows display settings are correct, checked the high DPI boxes, and added the environment variable. I am still having the issue but now the window initially shows nothing until I resize.

Thank you for your help so far! The issue unfortunately persists.

Hi! I guess you may want to remove the system variable, since it does not help anyway. However, something (one of the three suggestions) seems to alter the behavior, which confirms it could be display related. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated.

Many thanks!

Has anyone found the cause and potential fix for this issue?

Encountered it today on Inventor 2023.3.

Hi! Are you using dual monitors? Are the two screens having the same resolution?

Many thanks!

@florescu.d95 I have found that switching my monitor cables from HDMI to DisplayPort has decreased the problem substantially, although it still happens on occasion. @johnsonshiue I am using three screens total, and both of my monitors connected to my laptop are the same resolution and are set up properly in Windows settings.

I went through a support ticket with Autodesk and they were unable to pinpoint the exact cause, but they did find that the problem started happening to me after update 2022.3. Update 2022.2 did not have this problem and they decided to document it internally.

@johnsonshiue @LogVolt I'm using dual, sometimes triple monitor setups.

Did a Windows update plus a graphics driver update and the issue seems to be gone.
