Exporting text parameters

Is the ability to export text parameters without resorting to the custom iProperty workaround on the horizon?

Or is there some underlying reason this can't be done?

Thanks,

Brandon,

The honest answer was that Text never existed before we purchased and integrated iLogic into Inventor (can't remember the release).

We added Text (and multi-value, etc.) to support iLogic workflows and must have run out of time to handle the export.

I am not aware of any technical reason why we can't export text parameters.

While the kudo count for this is relatively small given the length of time I consider this to be an incomplete workflow that we failed to finish.

I am working with Dan S. to get this added to my team's backlog (i.e. accept it in IdeaStation lingo)

Dan just said that there is a duplicate IdeaStation post for that one, he is merging them so it will be higher than 31 in a moment.

I think we can likely add this to my team's backlog.

So how is this done in 2018?

It must still be on the priority list as it still cannot be exported in the latest 2018 update.

Hi! Indeed, it is true the ability is still not available as of 2018 and 2019. You could create a simple iLogic rule and equate an iProperty to a text parameter. Do you think it would work for you?

Many thanks!

Would creating an iproperty custom value allow the text in the parameter to be shared via "link" into another part file?

Hi! Yes, absolutely. Please take a look at post#4 in the following thread. It has the simple iLogic rule to make it work.

Many thanks!

Is this still not included in 2020? Seems like it has been on the list for quite a while.

Thanks,

Hi Bryan,

Unfortunately, it is not yet available. Making a text parameter exported is pretty straight forward. But, making it derivable is not as trivial. At the moment, the iLogic rule can still help passing the text parameter.

Many thanks!

I agree this should be implemented by now...

So with my scenario, I want to just pass a text parameter to my Bill of Material > Base Quantity. But I need to have the text parameter Export Parameter on... But due to this not being available, I can't... is there a way to bypass this with iLogic? I would like my Part Lists / Bill of Material qty for this part to show up with a text I pre-define so my team is flagged to edit it when creating the assembly.

To explain; it's for a length of material that gets used a lot on custom edges that we don't need 100k+ different models for.

Inventor: Model States is not a replacement for iParts / iAssemblies. It does not have all the same features yet and does not communicate well with our large currently in use libraries. 😞 https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/model-state-support-tabulated-parts-list/idc-p/11360616

Hi! I agree that it is very desirable to have such functionality. Another popular alternative workflow is to use iProperties instead. You can create a custom iProperty instead.

Many thanks!

Please implement the ability to derive text parameters as soon as possible. it has been a long time of missing this functionality

Finally in Inventor 2024 you can Export, Derive and Link Text Parameters!

They need 24 versions/years to solve clean this workflow...

Well done Autodesk!

Yea I saw this. I haven't been able to test it yet b/c my company hasn't rolled out the company wide updates for it yet. Can anyone verify this really has been fixed yet?

I appreciate how you were kind enough to remind them how slow they are at fixing this garbage software.

v. 2025 export text parameters is useless...

Problem was reported for 2024 : https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2024/ENU/?caas=caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/A-cyclical-cons...

Text exporting was reported to idea station in 2013, it would be nice for this obvious functionality to finally work 🙂

For now, we rely on "workaround" solutions...:/

To solve the issue of "A cyclical constraint dependency was detected" you should derive the part, assembly instead to Link.

I have this issue in 2024 and I solved using derive.
