Inventor 2017.  I am starting a new part ipt drawing.  I would like to import a body from another ipt drawing to this new drawing.  I dont want to do it in assembly mode because i want to be in ipt drawing mode,. Is it possible to import or copy and paste  a single body solid from one ipt to another ipt part drawing ?

Hi tdhardy,

 

You can place the two parts into an assembly an then edit one part and use the Copy Object tool to do this. If that doesn't work there are other options such as Derive part.

Open your new part file.

Go to the Manage tab and select Derive.

Select the part you want to bring into your new part.

Move\Rotate Body if needed.

 

No assembly needed.

JDMather makes a good point, unless the part to be copied need to be positioned/oriented in reference to the part it is being copied to, then an assembly might be needed, but it can be discarded once the Copy Object has been created.

After the part is brought in via the "Derive" tool.  it can then be moved/rotated using the direct edit tool in the modify panel.
