Error message on trying to open a .ipt file from a supplier

I get this error message,  

  Database schema for file G:\Inventor\Projects\Carbon600\TC\7-11-16-inlet.ipt is (21.0 (Build 210105000, 105)), which is newer than this version (20.0 SP2 (Build 200236200, 236)) of the software

I have seen a thread on a similar issue im not a educator I have a full licence and its up to date with the latest updates and I cannot open a .ipt file from a supplier about his product.  

The error message is this

I'm guessing you have Inventor 2016 and your supplier has 2017. Older versions of Inventor cannot open files saved in new versions. You will either need a neutral cad file (step) or update to 2017.

yep.. They have a newer version of Inventor vs you.. Thus you cannot open the file..

The only real option for you now is to either upgrade your version of Inventor to the same or greater or request step files instead..
