Elevation height meassurement?

Hi! Is it possible to have a elevation height measurement in Inventor? For example that i want to show that the height of the floor is at +4000 mm?

Hi, in Inventor your measures are xyz referenced, measuring the distance between 2 poits you can obtain in the results the x,y,z, delta distances

I would like to take the heigt from only one point because the measurement can be 1400m under ground level.... And then it´s "impossible" to take it from two points...

You can create your planes, then you will be able to measure between point line

and planes

But how do you do that in a drawing? if you have a box 1x1x1m 1400m away from the zero point? To me it sounds like a non working way to use it?

The problem is that the zero point is so very far away (1400m), so to be able to see the zero and the i would need to make the view in scale 1:1000 or something and then crop it and scale it up again. It would maybe work, but as an ugly workaround. I would have hoped for a one click solution that meassures the height from the Z zero plane.

Do like @admaiora shows using the OrdinateDimensions.

Then RMB on the Origin (datum symbol), pick Edit, and enter the X or Y offset distance you want.

That will push the Origin away from where you placed it, and it will give you the correct Elevation.

It may go way off the page, but who cares?
Nobody will see it and it doesn't matter.

Incidentally, if you can't see the Origin, then RMB on any of the OrdinateDimensions and pick ShowOriginIndicator.

I've done this many times over the years to show correct Elevations on Civil and Structural projects.

Using the break view can work better for you?

That might work. But it´s doesn't look so good to use break view. Can the view be cropped to take away the break view part of the drawing (i don´t need to see the zero height)

But if i think outside the box. Can i create some object like a small point and use have a ilogic code to get the z-value from origo. Then mark the object on the drawing and diplay the iproperties on the drawing. Then i could have a meassure part in reference and read out the iProperty z-distance. It this possible? Maybe in Inventor 2023 😄

Just follow my instructions and you won't need the extra view.

1. Start the OrdinateDimension tool.

2. Click on the point you want your dimension to be on, and finish the rest of the tool.

3. RMB on the Origin (datum symbol) and click on Edit

4. Change the Y value to -4000

5. Click OK and you're done.

6. Then add as many OrdDims as you want.
